But do you think my plan will actually work? Have people switched from a contract to a prepaid plan before?

Yes it will work, but how close are you from your Verizon plan expiring? Termination fee is pretty high, it might take a long time to get your cost back by switching early.

Straight Talk had pretty aggressive throttling and data caps. I think it throttles even if you use more than 150-200mb a day and you get notices.

I left ATT tried T-Mobile's $30 a month plan. My phone became all but useless I'd get edge in places where there was supposedly full LTE coverage. On top of that when call reception was bad the volume would drop so low I couldn't hear the other person.

I looked into every MVNO and GSM provider and there just isn't anything thats decent if you want good data speeds. The closest you can get is AIO wireless but its still $55 for their cheapest data plan and speeds are capped at 8mbps.

You get what you pay for bottom line. I ended up going back to ATT.

Sounds like you were in a bad area, there are a few dead spots for me around upstate NY but everywhere I do get a signal, it's strong 4g

Not according to T-Mobile. I'm in the SF Bay Area not exactly the middle of nowhere.

Sorry I kind of hijacked this thread it's not about T-Mo.

I've been using it for about two years, and I've gotten close to 2 GB of data use in a month before, but they've never sent me a warning or anything. I think it only red flags if you go over 2 GB often, or use a very large amount of data at one time.

I went on ST with a bundled Nokia E5 that came with an AT&T SIM card, and later switched to an E7. Last week, I picked up a Lumia 520 (AT&T prepaid phone) and it also works fine with the same ST/ATT SIM card, as long as you program the right settings for the Internet and MMS into it.

The soft cap on data has never been a problem for me, since I spend a lot of my time around wi-fi networks and just use them for data most of the time. Others' mileage may vary, depending on the amount of mobile data they use.
