Video in Sony Vegas Pro 12.0 and Premiere Pro CC Look Horribly Distorted/Choppy - PLEASE HELP!-

I have been recording gameplay videos using DxTory (2560x1600 @ 30FPS w/ x264vfw codec) and they playback just fine (using VLC or WMP Classic).

When I import the videos into Vegas or Premiere Pro, they appear horribly distorted. This happens for videos of Borderlands 2, Saints Row IV, and a few other games. BF3 and Metro LL work just fine so it's really weird as to why this is happening. All videos are recorded using the same settings in DxTory.

Example of what I'm seeing:

WMP Classic:

Sony Vegas:

Really need help with this as I can't render the videos! I tried rendering SR IV thinking it could be a bitrate issue with the Preview window in the program but nope, the video came out just as ugly after rendering. mad.gif

HELP!

try using FRAPS instead and set recording limit to 30fps.
Its possible the movie editing software cant show above 60fps, I imagine your Titans are getting like 200fps in borderlands lol

x264 with what audio format and container? NLEs (like Vegas and premier) have problems trying to conform to a non-standard h264 stream, though I don't know the exact details. x264 + mp3 > avi is not h264.

AFAIK, you shouldn't even be using x264 for the purpose of running it though an NLE. If you need simple cuts, you could use virtualdub with plugins you might need.

or...

You can use virtualdub to export the media in a compatible format for the NLE, like uncompressed RGB :O or a different lossless codec (lagarith/UT video).

also, if you're just using dxtory for x264vfw, you should be using OBS. OBS uses the x264cli which is actually still maintained. And if you have disk space, you could be recording in a lossless format. msi afterburner > fraps, if you're ever forced to use something other than dxtory.

I can't use FRAPS because I play at 5160x2560 and record at 2560x1600 - only DxTory allows this (different resolution gaming and recording).

Also, the FPS for recording is limited to 30FPS. I'm sure that's not the issue. At the resolution I'm playing at with everything maxed out, I get around 115FPS in BL2. thumb.gif

Wow.. thank you for the detailed response.

I am a bit new to the details of recording video/audio and so it would be great if you could explain a few of the things you've stated.

The clips have this recording info:
Quote:
Video: X264 2560x1600 30fps 40911kbpsAudio: PCM 48000Hz stereo 2304kbps [Audio 1]
Audio: PCM 44100Hz stereo 1411kbps [Audio 2]

One audio stream is for the speakers and the other the mic.

What is VirtualDub? Is this a plugin for DxTory? How do I use it and what plugins should I use for recording?

Also, I am not sure what OBS is. Is there a tutorial etc. on how to use it? I would like to just record the footage and edit it in Vegas/Premier Pro and call it a day. As mentioned before, the x264vfw works great for BF3 and MetroLL. So, I'm not sure why it doesn't work for the other games(?).

I have the Lagarith Lossless codec but that takes quite a big performance hit compared to x264 while recording gameplay.

Please help!

I just saw the x264vfw configuration window. Can you tell me how to tweak this to have optimum quality and performance?
