AMD Athlon II X3 455 Unlocking to AMD Phenom II X4 B55

Hello.

I own a Athlon X3 455 @ 3.3GHz that I unlocked a while ago for the 4th core version.

The core was totally stable but I had a problem.

While I did performance tests it actually got way worse, I mean it, really a lot worse.

I played with the multiplyer that was originally 16.5 (CPU is 200*16.5) and lowered it to like 2.4GHz that actually gave better performance than the 3.3*4 but still worse than 3.3*3. I tried to overclock aswell from 3.3*3 to 3.8*3 but the performance was worse than original configuration.

I didn't played with voltage but this time I will because on Christmas I'll be grabbing a i5 4670K and one of new MSI's Z87 motherboards, 2 Gskill Ram sticks 4GB each @ 2400MHz aswell so I don't fear damages anymore.

The reason I'm doing this is that I play ArmA 2 and it only detects single core, dual core, quad core, hexa core and octal core CPUs but never TRI-Core, assuming it is a dual core which basically bottlenecks whole system (I have a 7870 HD 2GB and 4GB Ram 800MHz - I know RAM SUCKS) which should give me way over the 15fps I get in big cities but it doesn't because ArmA is a lot more reliable on CPU rather than GPU.

Any tips on how to do it this time are welcome, I'll play with FSB, multipliers, voltage, maybe even the PCI-E Frequency and that stuff.

If you can actually explain why unlocking 4th core or overclocking makes it worse It would be appreciated as I might had escaped something as it was my first overclock attempt (I know a lot about the new technologies and about overclocking aswell but never tried it).

I think the problem might been with the Advanced Core Calibration or Cool n' Quiet settings, what should I put in these? Is it because voltage, have I to put it a little higher?

Sorry for my bad english, I think it's easily understandable tho and thanks in advance.

whats your motherboard?
by the way, an unlocked X3 455 will need at least 1.36 to 1.39 vcore to be stable as a 3.3ghz quadcore.

I think your HD7870 is gonna be bottlenecked unless you overclock the triplecore to 3.8ghz or at least unlock the 4th core as 3.3ghz

I will do it.

What about the Advanced Core Calibration %'s what should I put in that?

I'm in home now and I'll start testing. I will Keep the 3.3*4 and I will be going until 1.45V maximum.

What settings should I play with aswell?

Advanced Core Calibration.. isnt that only used for unlocking the 4th core?
what's your motherboard and ram?

4 cores at 3.3ghz is safe, I've been running my Athlon X3 455 with 1.39 vcore for 2 years now.
If your motherboard has mosfet heatsinks / vrm cooling, you could safely go up to 3.8ghz to really remove the bottleneck.

I think your problem is heat, if you are on a stock cooler upgrade it. The unlocked triple cores give off a lot of heat

You probably have to bumb the NB voltage. I've unlock three of the same CPUs and all needed that to run stable (that is just for me though), Overclock the NB while your at it. 2500ish sounds good.
