Going From Fx4100 to an 8350

finally pulled the trigger wondering if I need to do a clean install or am I good with just swapping the cpu's.

if you're gonna use the same motherboard, you can just swap.
No need to format and reinstall os.

When I switched from a Phenom II to an 8350, my motherboard wouldn't post the first two times I cut my PC on.

Although maybe that was because I forgot to reset the CMOS redface.gif

I just wanted to add that in since you also have a Gigabyte board, and possibly the same thing could happen.

Make sure the BIOS on your mobo is the latest version, mine needed it before moving up from a phenom II to an FX-8350 (Asus Crosshair Formula)
