It doesn't. The design of the processor is all Apple. Samsung just produce the product Apple tells them to.

The A7 was designed by Apple. Samsung simply manufactures it on a large scale. We've known this for a while now and yet it constantly appears as news. Samsung are just the cheapest option that meets the standards of their clients design.

I'm more interested to see a CPU designed and manufactured by Apple. That would be very interesting but like most consumer technology companies, they outsource their production and probably always will.

Basically. We've also known that Apple is not transitioning to TSMC until A8, that is most likely contractually related - as that bit of news happened early this year (with regard to Apple's new contract with TSMC). So i'm not sure how this constitutes news, really. Apple designed the chip and Samsung is mass producing it. Nothing news worthy here, really.

Others differ in opinion:
"Chipworks in collaboration with iFixit made the startling revelation after ripping the device apart and examining each component piece by piece."

Whatever for you is not newsworthy, for others is "startling revelation."

Startling revelation. If you say so. Samsung has mass produced chips for Apple for several years.

Apple designed the chip and Samsung had nothing to do with the design. I guess if you find someone mass producing a chip for a fabless company (Apple) startling, you don't read the news much. This is all contractually related, these contracts were in place with Samsung for some time. Starting with the A8, Apple is using TSMC. But that doesn't matter - Apple designed the chip, and someone else mass produces it because Apple doesn't have a fab. How is this newsworthy? You think that a fabless company contracting their designs out to a FAB is newsworthy? Interesting. Maybe you find it equally news worthy that Qualcomm, nvidia, mediatek and AMD also do not have fabs. Most of us, however do not find FABLESS companies using the FABS of Samsung, TSMC, etc to be interesting.

That is not making any senses. Dozen of phones components are made by other companies. So? Sony the camera and Samsung the chip. And your point?

He apparently doesn't understand that FABLESS companies have to contract their designs out to one of the four FABS in the world. Nvidia, qualcomm, LG, Nokia, etc all do the same. He thinks it is newsworthy. Most of us do not.

Apple probably pays Samsung around $20 for an A7 - the A6 was costing Apple, from Samsung also, ~$18 according to various websites.
Total cost for materials and manufacturing of iP5 was estimated around $207 ($8.50 for manufacturing). LCD Screen iP5 = $44 - for refernce, S4 LCD
price $75
