Fx-8320 temp help

Thread Starter
O hai,

Im new to amd overclocking and Im currently overclocking an FX-8320. The temps are a bit weird, Im using an antec 1220 240mm cooler, it should be pretty good but these are my results at almost stock voltages (MAX 1.395vcore, gotta fix dat LLC):

Which program should I use to read temps and what part of that program should I be watching?
Is Prime useful for stresstesting AMD too?
Is 62c package temp the absolute max?

Etc smile.gif. Im happy for any pointers.

Package is the core temp.
Keep that under 62C other wise its becomes unstable.
Also try Keep cpu temp under 65C which can be helped by having a fan on the back of the cpu socket and VRM area if your using water.

But Im using a H100ish type watercooler with dual 120mm fans and Im under 1.4vcore and still hitting 65c on cpu :S. Have I seated something improperly or can you see some shenanigans going on with the voltages?

62 is not the absolute max, it's been stated that 90C is in the offical vishera forums with documented proof.

However that temperate is when the OCP will kick in and shut things down.

AMD have stated that any temps above 62C will increase the chances of the chip becoming unstable, but unless its sitting in mid to high 60's 24/7 theres likely going to be no damage done, but it's always best to keep the chip under the temps where stabilty can effect your overclock.

These chips do run incredibly hot at higher clocks, even with the same volts.

What are you doing to hit the 65C?

Nothing really, now Im running 4.3ghz at 1.28vcore and it hits 62c withing 2-3 minutes of prime.

Downloading games for ingame testing. Liquid temp on the cooler is around 40-42 which is a bit higher than my 4770k.. No takers on the cure-time of the arctic silver 5 idea? frown.gif

Closed loop coolers will make the CPU temp read higer since there is no fan blowing down around the socket and thats where that temp is taken from.
Stick a fan blowing in this area and it will bring it down.

Core temp (Package) try keep it 62C and under.

Mine on 1.5V and 5ghz will get up to 63C under prime.
While CPU temp gets up to 68-70C

But then in gaming it never even goes over 50C on either.

Iv got AS5 on mine with a Antec 920. Took about a week and temps came down 3C.
Iv used a few of the different CLC and would have to rank them.

5: H50
4: H80
3: Antec 620
2: H100
1: Antec 920

Each one has had it base lapped since they were all quite convex. And using my same 2X 3.5Krpm high pressure fans in push pull.

Had to go home for work now so I guess we'll just have to wait and see about the cure time... Sad to have to stop at 4.3 tho, I mean Jesus we weren't even at 1.3 vcore frown.gif

Would expect you to be able to get 1.4-1.45V with a H100

Thats what I was thinking too, and having to stop at an undervolt and STILL reaching a 900mhz overclock means the chip is good. Really wish I was able to take it to 1.4 or something.
Oh well, Ill wait untill the AS5 has cured and tell him to get 2x SP-120s and then well have us a round 2 smile.gif.
