Certainly not to the legion of Titan and 780 owners (myself included) who keep saying there's no way for the R9 to keep up with GK110 when factoring in the AB hack and unlimited voltage. Why only consider stock clocks with this new AMD card while at the same time comparing it to 1400+MHz, hacked voltage Titans???

To bash AMD? They've certainly managed to get me hyped for this release, if they can actually deliver the performance at a lower price than NVIDIA then these will be swept off the shelves. That said, I'd wait at least 1 month for prices to fall and for benchmarks.

Hoping the price of 599.99 is accurate.

512bit bus takes space. Only reason to go with it over a 384bit one is to clock the memory lower and increase efficiency, something Nvidia is killing AMD in for the HPC market. 512bit bus is a move trading die space for lower clocks giving you higher efficiency but also higher manufacturing costs.

And we've yet to see how the IMC on Hawaii is. Kepler's IMC is teriffic, I can drive 1950MHz memory on my Titan. That's 7800MHz effective. And error correction kicking in isn't even a worry at that point.

As for the other stuff, Tahiti already has enough memory bandwidth. GK110 has mostly enough memory bandwidth. Even if the SPs scaled linearly with Hawaii it will not have the clock for clock performance to beat GK110 cards because they will clock higher. And we all know that SPs do not scale linearly...

Once again everyone is just setting themselves up for a disappointment yet again. I'll buy one if it's faster than a Titan at max OCs but I'm afraid that the numbers and math do not support that conclusion at all. They never have. So unless AMD suddenly pulls some miracle chip with higher density than ever seen before on 28nm and tons of architectural improvements, it's not happening. That's why the pricing rumors are what they are. These cards wont match highly OC'd 780s or Titans and they're unlikely to match them at stock either since AMD was touting their efficiency and performance for the specific die size instead of just pure performance.

Clocked low, high efficiency OCs well but unfortunately for them can't match GK110 clock for clock and GK110 clocks higher. Maybe getting performance wins when GK110 throttles back to base boost clocks or base clocks.

I'm wondering when everyone is finally going to realize this is not the R9-280x(the 7970 replacement),it's the next step above. The 280x will be priced in the $500 range and will compete with the GTX 780. The 290X will BEAT Titan. thumb.gif

Theres 6 phases there. Was leaked a while back that VI would use 6 vrms as a reference as well. Count the chokes (the cube-ish grey things), theres typically 1 per phase.

the dual gpu card will beat a titan...kinda like the 7990 does, now take away one of the gpus, and you get what we all actually care about.

I guess everybody is just going off of what AMD said about not trying to compete at the ultra high end...
This might very well turn out to be a good card. But with all the hyping you guys are doing (not AMD), it is very possible you will be disappointed with something realistically impressive.

If the R9 290X ends up competing with an OCed Titan then it will be one of the best marketing misdirections ever. I mean, who actually believed the 512-bit bus?
