idk, why did the 4870 demolish the 260 at $100 less, why did the 5870 rival the 295 with only one GPU at $100 less, why can you get a 7950 that beats a 670 when both are overclocked for as low as $200...?

Why was the 7970 $550, when the 6970 it replaced was $350?

Why was the 7990 $1000 - $1100 at launch, when 2 7970's were $800?

I hate to say it, but most likely supply and demand. IIRC the HD7000 had supply problems early in its timeline. If you can only supply so many at a time you would try to price your product at a point where demand matches supply.

I would think the deal was the same with the 7990. I think AMD knew about the driver problems with crossfire and they didn't plan to sell very many until the drivers were ready, so they priced it at $1000, a price point that would meet the demand AMD was expecting for the 7990.

Wishing on news on the AMD's competition in the GTX 760 range, and hoping they pull it off cheaper, with THIS same reference cooler... About to pull the trigger on a 760 soon, but I wonder if AMD would show a... how do the new coding works... R9 270? R7 290?

So if it's a 290X what room does that leave for a dual GPU in the naming scheme?

Good to hear 512bit and 4GB.

EDIT - In fact, that gives me an idea. It may be fun to revisit all of those tests today using unlocked voltage, bios, etc just to see how much faster my Titans are now than they were back then...

Maybe because its sibling, HD7870, bested HD6970 handily?
