nvidias roadmap surely doesn't indicate that. lets just hope we won't see anymore $1000 single gpus rolleyes.gif

In a way, I do agree with you, but not because of the same reason. The whole idea of project denver seems to be targeted at mobile market. I am more excited at volta, 1TB/S bandwidth. I mean, Kepler, Fermi, GT 200 are all designed for high performance tesla cards. Maxwell seems to be a architecture designed at efficiency and mobile market with the embedded ARM chip, we will see if it scales well in to the high end market.

There might not be a GM 100 if my speculations are correct, all the chip we had from 200 to now are all big die tesla chips, but nvidia made no indication that maxwell is for tesla and it seems to be more for mobile chips, but it would not stop nvidia from charging 1k for a 300ish mm2 die. rolleyes.gif

EDIT: But then again, it is using nvidia's version of HSA so, it might be decent performance, you never know. Now for games to utilize this, thats a different question. Frankly, right now, anything anyone have on these maxwell should be taken with a jar of salts.

Surely you're not basing that off of this.

I don't see why NVIDIA would get away from their small / big die strategy, they've been doing so for the past 5 gens.

A lot of people thought GF104 based 680 was NVIDIA's new highend strategy, and that GK110 would never come out as a gaming GPU, now, some of those people own Titans, after owning 7970's. . wink.gif

I've pretty much decided on skipping Kepler, and look forward to the 880, or 980, which ever Big Die GPU comes next.

It might have great performance per watt, but it might not scale well to high end. Just a feeling about my opinion on project Denver.

BTW, new chart. http://www.techspot.com/news/52003-future-nvidia-volta-gpu-has-stacked-dram-offers-1tb-s-bandwidth.html

It's actually a discussion me and Alatar had some time back. It just seems unlikely to me that Nvidia will be able to pull off such a big performance increase with their next architecture but as I said, pure speculation...

New chart is the same (closely) as the old one... the chart. Old chart went in increments in 2, the new one doubles at each increment.

Interesting, either way, my next upgrade will be Maxwell x80, which HAS to be faster than the 780 on 20nm.

Are you guys saying that NVIDIA won't live up to the perf / watt predictions? Those charts are based on DP, not SP, which means they'll be using a big die in order to achieve that. I can't see them getting away from their small / big die strategy. NVIDIA is too invested in the HPC market to deviate away from that.

No, I expect Maxwell to perform in line with a typical new architecture but I just don't expect it to be as massive a jump as the Fermi to Kepler one and as a result, people may be more "meh" than last time. I'm really talking more perception that actual performance...
