[VC] AMD Radeon R9 290X with Hawaii GPU pictured, has 512-bit 4GB Memory - Page 71

Jesus. The best thing about the new AMD card is that we won't be seeing 7970 users talking about their 7970 for several pages to no end, posting about their 7970. About their 7970.

its exactly the other way around. the actual gameplay benchmarks show AMD cards performing better while the in game benchmark shows Nvidia cards performing similar.

all these sites clearly run actual gameplay benchmarks. tr and hwc post videos of the tested sequence. hardocp explains the sequence being tested

"Our run-through for this specific evaluation simply takes place during the first introduction scene of the game. We start it at the beginning with Lara hanging on a rope, and end it when she exits the cave and looks out over the ocean. The entire scene has a lot of action going on, and a lot of graphical effects with a ton of particles. Intense lighting, shadowing, tessellation, and TressFX hair rendering, with water, ambient occlusion and depth of field are present. "

tomshardware explains "Ultimate Quality Preset, FXAA Enabled, 16x Anisotropic Filtering, TressFX Hair, 2560x1440, Custom Run-Through, 45-Second Sequence, FCAT"

OT: I find myself watching a lot of youtube countdowns in 2013, xbone, ps4, now this, it's funny smile.gif Hope 290X is competitive and for a decent price. What more can we OC enthusiasts wish for, no matter if you prefer nvidia or AMD.

Unless AMD fix their stand by bug with their new cards I won't be buying their cards in the future anymore. Every-time my PC goes to sleep it doesn't respond to any key, unless I hard reset it. It is a really frustrating and annoying problem that drives me nuts sozo.gif .
I hate to keep my PC working 24/7, Instead I make it go to stand by mode every hour when I am not in front of it. Before it didn't make much different to me but lately the frequency of freezing increased to an annoying level...

I don't always belittle AMD products, I just tell it how it is. I'm not one to sit around and make excuses for companies when they have slower products, or when their products have issues.

I would love it if the 9970 is faster than Titan by 30%, would be nice to see NVIDIA be forced to lower prices, and HAVE to play the Price / Performance game in order to compete.

Look at the 7970, it started out at $550, and can be had now for $300, since it's the 3rd fastest GPU, and it needs a lower price tag to be sold.

Must be nice to be an AMD user these past few months, cheaper hardware, while we're stuck paying $650 for a 780. x80 should be $500 max like they have been the past 4 gens. Having the fastest GPU's without competition has been boring and expensive for the past 7 months.

It also sucks that NVIDIA was able to get away with selling their mid-range chip for $500, due to its performance vs the best the competition has to offer, when it's normally sold for $300.

By the time this 9970 is out, it will have been 22 months since the 7970 released, I sure hope that AMD can deliver something faster after all this time. Anything slower than Titan, and I will be disappointed in AMD.

you sound thirsty, maybe you should just order a tab

hopefully somebody gets that reference

But on a serious note, what makes you think it's a AMD driver issue? On the surface, It sounds more likely a OS or Mobo issue

Nice try on blaming AMD for Nvidia's over priced and often slower GPU's. rolleyes.gif

Nvidia themselves are the only ones who are responsible for that, get real.

What's truly mind boggling is what you wrote has a couple mildly harsh words for AMD and a couple harsh sentences for Nvidia yet you have the AMD over-enthusiasts jumping down your throat for it. And to top it off, you are rooting for AMD to have the better card on this release.

Pretty much sums up what's wrong with OCN at this point. Either you love AMD or your opinion gets jumped on by the same small group of people. Makes having any discussion pretty much worthless when you can't even have any constructive criticism. No company has been or ever will be perfect. Not AMD and especially not Nvidia.
