[VC] AMD Radeon R9 290X with Hawaii GPU pictured, has 512-bit 4GB Memory - Page 72

@ 2010rig

December 2011, 7970 launched 20 to 30% faster than the GTX 580. ~$100 more expensive

A few months later, GTX 680 Launches 10% faster than the 7970 and $50 cheaper, AMD drop prices to below that of the GTX 680.

A few Week's later, AMD launch 7970 GE, it matches the GTX 680 performance for less money, Nvidia do nothing.

Another few months later, AMD launches the 12.11 Driver which push the performance of the 7970 GE 10% past the GTX 680 and still for less money.

Some time later AMD launch their Never settle campaign, now its 10% faster than the GTX 680 and cheaper and you get a bunch of free games. Nvidia do nothing.

Some more time later Nvidia launch the GTX Titan for more than twice the cost of a 7970 GE @ $600 more for 20 to 30% more performance.

Next they release the GTX 780 @ 7% slower than the Titan still for $200 more than the 7970 GE.
Then they re-name an overclocked version of GTX 680 and release a GPU slower than the GTX 670 for the same money.

As i said, the only ones who can be blamed for Nvidia are Nvidia.

You know whats coming next?

AMD release a GPU around GTX Titan performance with free games, including BF4 that is also (unlike Nvidia GPU's) DX11.1 and DX11.2 compatible... and for $300 less.

AMD is the only way for Bang for Buck, extras, features..... everything really.

Nvidia themselves are the only ones who are responsible for that, get real.

this

Altho there is duopoly going on. But the blame isn't equal. NV is more to blame, that is for sure.

10% improvement just with new drivers?!

Some say it was more than that, but yes.

$300 cheaper than the Titan meaning $700 price point at launch for this card?

The Titan is $900, or is it still $1000?

we really can't blame nvidia..as they are in a market to make money..they could price the card anyway they wanted with regards with the titan and 780, as their was no competition..AMD was no where to be found since they release the titan and 780..now this change everything as AMD is releasing their new cards in a few hours..this all comes around with the benchmark..heck if they can beat just the 780 with the same price or lower then we got ourselves a bang for a buck card with their never settle campaign..

Wow come on, we don't even know the confirmed specs yet or have benchmarks which are confirmed as genuine. Guessing on price vs a titan is a little meaningless at this stage I think.

don't waste your time with him. for him AMD can never do anything right. Its clear that all he wants to talk is AMD's negatives and Nvidia's positives. AMD started the HD 7000 generation badly and their reputation and market share took severe beating. They have started improving their drivers from 12.11 never settle and now are on par for single GPU. for multi GPU they need to get frame pacing phase 2 driver out to be considered competitive. I am thinking AMD will time that with the retail launch of Hawaii in mid-Oct. Hopefully the lessons from the bad execution last year, lost brand value and lost market share have made AMD more determined to correct things with Hawaii and Volcanic Islands family.
