Asus Maximus VI Extreme, Gigabyte Sniper M5, or other ?

Thread Starter
Hello,

I'm upgrading my rig, in order to plug: I already bought some elements, that I plan to reuse.
  • SLI (2x GTX 780, have 1 so far, will buy the other foir Xmas)
  • Core i7 4770k with a moderate OC (I will probably use the auto-tune feature, I just want a little increase from stock core speed, but I don't want too much noise on the cooler)
  • Noctua NH-u12P
  • 2x 8Go ram

I don't plan to watercool, nor to do more than 2-way SLI

I'm interested in ac WIFI (which the Extreme provides), but I'm OK to have it as a separate PCIe card
I have low end audio equipment, so I will rely on onboard audio in any case

The extreme seems nice, has ac wifi, but has 8x/8x SLI...the Sniper has lower wifi (n only), better audio but I don't really care, but support 16x/16x SLI.

As I use a large cooler, I would also like to know if I might have clearance difference if I use an ATX or mATX board...

What do you recommand ? I'm also opened to other boards suggestion

Don't bother buying an Extreme board if you aren't doing tri sli or quad.

the 780s will not eat up all the bandwidth of the x8, so x16 on both cards is not needed.

I'd look at the ASUS IV Formula or Hero. The Formula has great on board audio and it also has the WIfi that you are looking at. The Hero has great bang for the buck on features.

As far as OCing, you will get better temps by manually doing it. The auto tune features usually give more voltage than needed for an OC. Which means hotter temps and more noise for the fan to compensate.
