Larry gets an upgrade (Updated 12/24) - Page 3

Universal blocks will work with some ram heatsinks. It's cheaper in the long run because you can use the universal block on your next set up.

Yeah true, but I just don't like universal blocks. I probably won't be doing much overclocking to justify water cooling the GPU anyway.

Free is free. A 660 will give you a very nice boost from your current gpu. Wait till you have money because watercooling isnt cheap. Just looking at your rig now youd need a new case ~$100, the wc kit you ~$250, Coolant ~$?, GPU block ~$100. In the end it'll look cool but if you dont have the money look at it as a future cause and not a "this year" kinda of project.

I found a Corsair HX750 for $90 after promo and mir

EVGA SuperNOVA 750w for $60 after mir

Yeah, if I can get this job I just applied for I'd be able to swing watercooling. If I get enough money before I get the 660, I'll just go with a 7950 like I want to and use the 660 elsewhere. Or do SLi with another 660. Who knows. As for the power supplies, I'm not much of a rebate person, and I've kinda got my heart set on the Silverstone Strider 850W.

The heart wants what the heart wants. No matter what you decide it'll be a kick butt pc.

Fo sho. I can only imagine what higher end pc's are like, I'm seriously blown away with what I have right now. This new CPU and RAM makes so much of a difference it's insane.

Just wait till you overclock that 1045t. Those are almost as nice as fx6300s. I would suggest you just be happy with the 660ti and overclock that crap out of it honestly since free is free and you get 3d vision or w/e and phsx which are pretty nice.

Really? Hmm. And yea, I'm just going to stick with the 660. (It's non Ti unfortunately) and if anything i'll just pick up a second one for SLi.

So, I've got a bit of a plan worked out for Larry...

I've now got a job, so I should be able to put more towards Larry.

This is what I eventually plan on getting to:

-Asus Gryphon
-i5 4670K
-SLi GTX 660's
-Silverstone Strider 850W
-CaseLabs S5
-Custom Loop
-256GB Samsung EVO
-2TB Seagate

That's thinking a bit far ahead, but I have my birthday next week, and I usually get around $200. So, I'm going to buy a power supply first, and then a GTX 660 after that. I am also getting my friend's 660 when the nvidia 800 series is released next year. So, I will have a chance to go SLi. I also want to go with an intel cpu this time around, as I want to try out what intel has to offer, and the only decent motherboards that are mATX are intel boards. I also want to downsize to mATX as I go to a lot of LAN parties as of late. An SSD is also in order, which will be purchased after I get a 660. And to replace my 10+ year old SATA drives, a 2TB Seagate drive is in order. And the CaseLabs S5 I hope will be attainable, I priced it out to $280. That's a lot for a case. But, I hope it will be worth it.

And so, my next purchase shall be relatively soon, as I'm going to start the upgrade with a new power supply, getting rid of my tired 460W Cooler Master.

Thoughts, opinions? Thanks guys biggrin.gif

I would get 4770k instead. But rest of build looks nice. If your goal for the Gpu is the 800 series I would skip the 660 and just grab a 7850.
