[AMDFX] A10-7850K (R5-200M) + R7-240 in Hybrid Crossfire - over 500% the GPU performance of Iris!...

Thread Starter
UPDATE: This is actually an R5-200M (could very well be renamed) + R7-240 in hybrid crossfire.

I thought this would be obvious by now simply from the GPU core counts. 512 + 320.

Showing up to 800% the performance of the little old Richland 8670D!!

"

This Speaks for itself!

Intel HD 5200 Iris with eDRAM is now pathetic compared to a DDR3 1600 Mhz Kaveri system. Watch HuMA and HSA at work with that memory bandwidth as well as General Purpose Cryptography up to near 500% the performance (+400%) of Iris 5200 and up to ~840% the performance (~+740%)! Both systems are running with 1600 Mhz DDR3.

Kaveri's GPU+ R7-240 is essentially matching an underclocked 7790 (7750) with DDR3 working with GDDR5. This means Kaveri's GPU will sport 832 Stream Processors and overshoots the original estimates and rumours of 512 stream processors by alot! Stock clock will be 600 Mhz but there is no word if there will be a turbo clock implemented but my guess is YES! smile.gif

And Now that Kaveri motherboards have entered the enthusiast field, I'd love to see 2400-2600 Mhz DDR3 testing! This is a GREAT time for 2400 Mhz purchasing aswell, as the price is only marginally higher than 1866 or 2133 Mhz options. Asus claims a +30% increase in performance on their Kaveri FM2+ page here going from 1333-2133 Mhz! So compare the above results at 1600 Mhz to a theoretical system with 2600 Mhz DDR3!"

is there any cpu benchmarks leak? i mean is good to have a good iGpu but i would like to get a FM2+ CPU as least able to fight a 2500k which is sitll rocking.

I don't even see 400% anywhere.

If this is true, then Kaveri was worth the wait! thumb.gif

Why does it say 256-bit for the second last benchmark shown (in the source link, not the qouted chart)

If it really does have more than the 512 cores we were suspecting, then consider me sold. thumb.gif

You have to take the given "benchmark numbers" with loads of salt for the below reasons:
  • 13CU and 832SPU would make for a huge die - we are expecting 8CU and 512SPU
  • One possible conclusion is that this is a 7CU (448 SPU) Kaveri attached to a 6CU (384 SPU) Hainan discrete GPU
  • Could be spoofed

Point 2 raises some interesting questions. Can hardware along with AMD driver support allow for applications to view Kaveri iGPU + discrete GPU as one device for OpenCL/DirectCompute?

Edit: Also SiSoft could be doing something stupid as well.

If that's true, good for AMD thumb.gif

However I'm still not on board with the direction HUMA and HSA is taking the industry. I don't want my choice of CPU to be locked to my choice of GPU. If my CPU goes bad I don't want to have to replace my totally fine GPU. I don't want my CPU and GPU to share the same thermal capacity. And most of all, there's a reason DDR3 is used for system memory and GDDR5 is used for graphics memory. They're specialized for different things. It would make sense if serial processors and parallel processors worked best with the same kind of memory, but they dont.
