Wait..I have a small issue with this

Okay sure, IF this article happens to come forth and be true to everything..thats just the GPU side of the APU no..?

What about the processing power, With that big of a GPU in there, the cores must not be so impressive.

That or Steamroller has very good IPC, and other tricks up its sleeve to provide great performance.

From what im guessing, the GPU part alone is like 50-60 watts here, if maxed out, then the rest is on the cores themselves.

Also the performance increase with the GCN architecture seems to be rather impressive, well, from what ive seen with the A6-5200 APU, needing only 128 cores to rival a intel HD 4k. (that being compared to my older 7640g with 256 cores)

But enough of my blabbing. I feel like they are shoving entirely too much GPU power on the chip, This may balance it out a bit, but the memory controller..unless they can pull off some magic voodoo like they did with the lower end babcat cores being using a single channel of ram yielded great performance..things will be interesting.

Eh..Either way, i want to get my hands all over this..even though i prefer the jaguar APUs over everything else.

The GPU doesn't have any real bearing on the CPU's performance. The only thing the iGPU does die-wise is just take up an adequate amount of space to give out some good graphics/rendering/compute performance. The CPU isn't hampered by this in any way, the only "downside" there is, is the core count. They can fit two modules on there and get four cores, which is what they've been doing since the beginning. The only exception being Llano which did have four separate physical K10 cores on it since it wasn't Bulldozer-based.

Everything on the dies were pretty much well-balanced; caches, I/O & misc, cores/modules, GPU, etc. Trinity/Richland has roughly the same performance clock-for-clock when compared to its AM3+ counterpart, the FX-4300.

I'm guessing this Mantle thing should be working on Kaveri too, it's iGPU has GCN cores after all.

Obviously ! They are claiming CPU draw calls to be dispatching at a rate of 900% faster with Mantle over DirecX 11. If its true than we'll really see Kaveri running Battlefield 4 at 1080p medium settings. thumb.gif

Well, I understand it may not hurt performance with the CPU cores, I meant, they have to stay within the TDP correct? Wouldn't this reduce the CPU performance for the bigger GPU die?
