This would be great really. But it always turns out that AMD is late to the party by like 1 or 2 years. If they can remain on schedule and release this kind of product on a continual basis then Intel and others would start having big competition.

i still can't believe these kaveri numbers... if true this APU will be the game changer. at 200 for a quad core it probably will be worth it... as you'll be getting a $130 ish cpu and a $130 ish gpu in one package. dual graphics will be worth it as well, as the 7790/7850 are strong gpus in their own right, and piggybacking one of those onto this little beast will give you some elite game performance for peanuts. $500 gaming pcs which could run with a current gen 800 machine?

yeah... this will really shake up the landscape if true.

of course i remember all the bulldozer buzz and all the original phenom buzz... and all the haswell buzz too. so i'm going to keep my enthusiasm in check here.

A small detail from the Sisoft benchmarks:

832 SPU Kaveri is listed as "1 device / 2 threads"
http://www.sisoftware.eu/rank2011d/show_run.php?q=c2ffcdf4d2b3d2efdee7d0e4dcedcbb984b492f792af9fb9caf7cf&l=en

512 SPU Kaveri is listed as "1 device / 1 thread"
http://www.sisoftware.eu/rank2011d/show_run.php?q=c2ffcbfed8b9d8e5d4e0d6efc9bb86b690f590ad9dbbc8f5cd&l=en

A hint that this might be the result of drivers allowing OpenCL enabled programs to view/use Kaveri's iGPU + dGPU as if it were one device.

  • One possible conclusion is that this is a 7CU (448 SPU) Kaveri attached to a 6CU (384 SPU) Hainan discrete GPU
  • Could be spoofed

Point 2 raises some interesting questions. Can hardware along with AMD driver support allow for applications to view Kaveri iGPU + discrete GPU as one device for OpenCL/DirectCompute?

Edit: Also SiSoft could be doing something stupid as well.
Sisoft always does stupid stuff. Always puts my 7870 as 42x higher compute than a 7970, As if.

Point is that SiSoft is a very unreliable source. It can spit out 2 completely different numbers on a back to back run. Usually it is pretty good, but as I said -- definitely not the de facto benching program around.

If this is true it should be able to crossfire with a 7770, right? Or do you think it is more feasible it will work only with the latest gpus (R7 2x0)?

New GPU being refresh at the lower tiers then it should.
