All its doing is downloading compressed data and decompressing once it's on the pc that's the speed it is reflecting not the actual download, it's an interesting process that eliminates the need for an actual installer application.

This makes little sense, Origin does what Steam does, they both download the game data, then do a small installation process afterwards, although for Steam it is when you first launch the freshly downloaded title.

Compression has nothing to do with internet speed, and i just downloaded almost 11GB, as i would with Steam, yet Steam does not double my net bandwidth.

They both double mine. I pay for 15Mb download, and I've consistently gotten 24+ Mb download speeds with both Origin and Steam.

What time of day were you downloading this? If it was in the morning, or early afternoon, some companies will allow faster rates during non-peak hours. I know that's why I get my speeds, because I usually download at like 11am or 2 in the morning, when the lines from my ISP are not in use nearly as much.

i remember seeing my download speed get to 2mb/s when battlefield 3 release and was completely baffled by it. i usually get about 500kb/s on steam or anywhere else...tell us your secrets EA!!

The easiest way I can explain it is if download bf3 with all the expansions its somewhere around 18.4GB and origin list's that number when you go to download it, but how they work it is in reality all your downloading is roughly 14-15GB of data and it rapidly decompresses the data once the files are ready. What origin is showing with it's download rate is essentially the rate it's being written to your hard drive not the rate your receiving.
Check your router's download logs if your don't believe me that would give the most accurate read on your connection, even if ea did have some magic pipe to download faster they still can't exceed the limited pipe going to your home created by your isp.
