Personally, I wouldn't. Then again, I'm somewhat biased as I was able to buy a Vertex 3 120GB brand new for $60 last year (Black Friday/Cyber Monday sales) and a bunch of Samsung 830 128GB for $70-80 with all the clearance sales as the 840 PRO was being released.

Any and all input is greatly appreicated.. I am new to SSD's so while it did look like this was going off topic fairly quickly I do value all of the input.. and as such I have started looking more towards a new drive vs the used ones.. I do like my warranties.. does anyone have any input on this drive

Kingston SSDNow V300 Series SV300S37A/120G as its currently on sale at the EGG for $89.99

Obviously, I'd take the 10 000 mile car if the price and everything else were identical, but the car with 30 000 miles is significantly cheaper in almost any scenario, making it a better purchase. In an absolute worst case scenario, a 120GB 840 will die after 120TB have been written. That's more than 30GB a day over a decade! Nobody does that! An equivalent M500 will take nearly 100GB (0.1TB) daily before it runs out of P/E cycles in a decade or will last 30 years at 30GB a day. In a normal scenario, a TLC SSD will last a generation instead of a century.

so you mean
for 120GB size
tlc normally can last for 10 years
mlc normally can last for 30 years
base on what I know, double the size would double the life length too then become:
tlc 20 years
mlc 60 years
and may be I am wrong:
tlc 1000 cycle
mlc 3000 cycle
but I am not sure how do they really count as one cycle, since nand can be filled randomly even for a big file...something like that
correct?

1. Okay, Samsung makes a lot of memory too. Both companies have all of their SSDs produced in-house. What's your point?
2. Woo-hoo! PR!
3. That's what benchmarks and reviews are for. If you know what you're looking for, you'll get that. If you don't, then you have a cheaper option with the exact same quality.
4. Irrelevant since it varies from region to region. 840s and EVOs are cheaper than M500s and Pros are more expensive for most of the Western world.

Yes , when i searched for ssd i whas suprised that intel made the ssd , they not often made that kind of complete assembled hardware. Now have several intels G2 and happy with them .
The best memory i ever bought where Rdram Samsung modules ,they look nice and have a heatsinck biggrin.gif
But i would buy a Samsung anyday they made some pretty good drives already, and intel isn t showing us a good consumer ssd with intel controller .
I think a good ssd player could be Thoshiba basicly the inventor of flash , the Q serie is not expensive.

How about the tlc controller stability part? 3 bits suppose to have much higher chance to have something wrong and just screw up, after warranty means really just dead?

It's good, but it isn't great. That's the point of it though: it's meant for people like you who are upgrading for the first time and don't want to drop $120 on a single component you aren't even sure of. I'd get one for that price, but you'd be wasting $15 for today only.

As long as you've got your baby, the wife doesn't matter. wink.gif Best thing to do is check PCPartPicker whenever you see an awesome deal because it might just be better elsewhere, and saving a net 10% is better enough to justify it.
