i7 2600k overclocking issues

Thread Starter
Hi guys, I had my i7 stable at 5ghz for around 6 months or so then put it back to its standard clock for the summer as the room the computer in gets very hot through the summer and my temps were hitting around 90c

Last couple of days I've been trying to get it back to 5ghz, I forgot to save the 5ghz settings as a new profile in the bios, changed everything to what they used to be from what I can remember and cannot get it stable at all, I'd like to have it back at 5ghz but I'd settle for 4.8ghz but I can't even get that stable at the moment, maybe its just me being out of touch as I've not overclocked anything since I first overclocked this system (sig rig)

Was wondering if anyone could offer me some advice and/or base settings to start from at 4.8-5ghz?

From running the full 3dmark11 benchmark test it seems that its my processor letting me down on the score

Thanks for any help! Still a bit of a newbie when it comes to overclocking, I think when I got the i7 stable at 5ghz was more luck than knowledge rolleyes.gif

What kind of board I'll give you my settings for 4.9GHz

I need to know at least what voltage you were around last time though, because I have a nicely binned chip.

Asus P8P67 DULUXE was at 1.416v when at 5ghz and was stable, but can't get it stable at that again, maybe I've missed another setting I changed, not really sure at the moment

Here are some screens that I saved from my i7-2600k 5Ghz OC in my sig rig.

Its a bummer you didn't save settings after you have gone to all the work to begin with, good luck getting back to 5 thumb.gif

Hope this may help.

Give those settings a go and if they don't help I'll post mine. Mines with HT enabled.

I bet you were gutted.

I just remembered and thought I better add, that that OC was with hyper-threading disabled.

I had HT enabled on my 5ghz overclock, not sure how i managed it at such a low voltage but it was stable, never did a 24 hour test on prime95 but it survived it for a couple of hours and never crashed while gaming

Edit, so far so good, booted up at 5ghz 1.42vcore, about to run prime95 and see what happens

Froze after a couple of minutes running Prime95, no BSOD just froze, going to up the vcore to 1.425 and try again.

might be a stupid question but as a processor ages would it need a higher voltage to stay stable at a clock it used to be stable at before?

Edit, 1.425vcore got BSOD (124) as soon as I started prime, I can't remember what the BSOD codes mean so need to look that up
