Lapping Noob

Thread Starter
I'm going home in a few days and I've decided to lap my conroe & Tuniq.

Can anyone give me any advice?

Do I buy a kit? Or just go to the DIY store?

Whats the best technique? And how much of an improvement will I see?

Most of my customers see an improvement of 2.5 to 4 degrees C when they lap their heatsink. Add another degree or two for lapping your heat shield on your CPU.

A kit will give you everything you need with some having the option of glass and quality thermal compound included. And it might be good to have it shipped to your door instead of driving around, depending upon where the location is.

Feel free to ask any specific questions you might have.

i vouch for easypckits.com! i bought a premium kit from insulglass and although i havent used it yet (tomorrow or monday) i can tell its a VERY NICE KIT! 100x better than trying to find all the stuff yourself..

I'm sorry, I'm a noob, too, when it comes to lapping, and I have a question. What is the glass used for?

So you have a perfectly flat surface to lap on.

Ahh, I see, I saw somewhere, a lapping guide I believe, that they got a slab of Rock (Garnet, Marble, or Travertine) for about $5 at a Local Store and used it as a Flat Surface.

Nice, when I'm going to Lap my Tuniq Tower 120 / Q6600 I'm going to get a Heatsink Lapping Kit With Glass and Some Polisher to make it shine.
