Crossfire and Eyefinity @120hz Just Doesn't Work

Combining text from AMD Support thread, need some help because I'm getting nowhere on AMD Forums:

I have a setup with Crossfire HD7950's and three Samsung 120hz monitors. Two of those monitors are connected via active miniDP adapters, and the other on a DL-DVI.

For one I've never got crossfire to work correctly with three 120hz monitors. On 13.6 beta drivers I could get all three at 120hz, and they would work 90% of the time without Link Adaper Errors. But in BF3 (2160x1280 - Custom settings, mostly low and diabled MSAA etc) I would get full memory usage and after a while the game would studder like it's locking up, and then continue. After a few of these "lock up studders" it would fully lock the machine.

I have swapped motherboads and no help (Gigabyte Z68 to ASUS Z77), I am so frustrated that I only run one card and have the other one sitting in there doing nothing. I was excieted for the 13.8 drivers. But after installing I cannot get the DL-DVI screen to recognize 120hz, so I can only do Eyefinity at 60hz.

My Rig:

- ASUS P8-Z77-V Deluxe

- Delidded i7 3770k Overclocked to 4.7 Ghz - Water cooled with XSPC Raystom CPU Waterblock

- Crossfire Sapphire HD 7950's

- Kingston Technology HyperX Predator 8GB Kit (2x4GB) 2400MHz

- ASUS P8Z77-V Deluxe

- ASUS XONAR ESSENCE STX Sound Card

- Corsair Modular 80 PLUS Platinum (AX1200i) Power Supply

- CM Storm Trooper Case

- Three Black Ice GT Stealth 240 X-Flow Radiators

- XSPC 5.25" Bay Reservoir

- Aerocool EN55369 V12XT Touch Panel Fan Controller

- 6 Noctua NF-F12

- Two Crucial m4 256GB 2.5-Inch SSD's in RAID 0

- Swiftech MCP655TM 12 VDC Laing D5 Vario Pump

- EKWB EK-Ekoolant UV BLUE Coolant

- SteelSeries Merc Stealth Gaming Keyboard

- Logitech G9X Gaming Mouse

- SteelSeries 9HD Large Professional Gaming Mouse Pad

Monitors:

3 Samsung S23A700D120hz, bezel removed, portrait in Eyefinity

Can somebody please help me get this rig up and running the way it should? I've got all this money sitting in my rig doing nothing! I'm really about to sell my two 7950 and go NVIDIA, I can't get this AMD gear to run like it should!

New drivers came out so I tested:

In preperation for testing these new drivers I formatted my OS disk and reinstalled Windows 7 from scratch. I then went on testing from the latest beta build (13.10) back.

I flush the previous drivers before install I used the CCC uninstaller, uninstall display devices in device manager, then boot into safe mode and use DriverSweeper to clean all AMD drivers.

13.10 - Installed, hooked up crossfire, and restarted. Machine locked up after windows logo screen on blank black screen.

I unplugged and tested each card by itself, each card boots up and runs just fine. But when crossfire is physically connected, the machine locks up on boot.

I'm currently running this driver with one card. The only way to get all three screens at 120hz is to boot up with only the DL-DVI cable plugged in, then plug in the other two monitors on Mini-DP ports. If you boot up with all three plugged in then the two DP port monitors will have 120hz available, but the DL-DVI will only be available at 60hz

13.9 - Pretty much the same as above, except that the machine will boot into windows and then go to a black screen with a blinking cursor, and will just stay there. Keyboard locks up and is unresposive. I rebooted and will lock up after windows logo screen.

Each card runs fine in it's own slot by itself, but machine will lock if crossfire is connected and both cards are powered.

13.4 - Funny thing is that I used to be able to get crossfire to work but now it just locks up on installation.

It's tough to swap cards and slots around because I'm water cooled, but I can if I have to. Let me know if anybody has any ideas.

Did a little more digging:

On the latest beta drivers - 13.10 - I've got crossfire to at least install and not hang. What I had to do is unplug the ATX power from the top card and plug ATX power on the bottom card, along with the display cables. Once I booted up the second card installed correctly. At that point I overclocked and tested the bottom card only, everything looked good. Then I plugged the top card back in, booted, shut down, installed crossfire cable, booted, enabled crossfire, and now I'm at least booting into the OS with crossfire enabled.

I've tried to play some games, both Arma III and BF3 both start up and run for a few minutes, then I either get a hard lock, or a sound loop until I reset or shut down.

Then I started underclocking and giving more voltage. Currently I can't play games or benchmark with 3DMark at 700Mhz/1200Mhz at 1.1/1.65 without a lockup, driver crash, or other error. I also have my 3770k running at stock and set my 2400 memory to 1333

After this I installed the latest CAP, still no help.

Guess what I'll do next is try to disable eyefinity and play/bench on one screen. This is really frustrating, I know I have enough power supply to push this thing, maybe I should try another power supply?

Does anyone have any ideas?

One more note, even with eyefinity disabled and only running one screen, I get the same issues... frown.gif

sounds like drivers been messed up along the way.
I would either use amd uninstall utility works for windows 7 not win 8 though or do a new installation of the OS.

13.8 has a bug with 120hz, cant set 120hz either with them.
still using 13.4.

This is on a fresh install of windows, with a fresh install of 13.10

Are you suggesting I reinstall a fresh copy of windows, then 13.10 again?

For me to get all three screens at 120hz I have to boot up with only the DL-DVI plugged in. Then after windows boots you plug in the other two monitors on active mini dp adapters and they will enable eyefinity at 120hz.

How about trying 13.9 WHQL?

I already tried 13.9, please read my OP. I tried 13.4, 13.9, 13.10, and this was all on a fresh install of windows.

I wasn't talking to you. Why do you assume I didn't read the OP?

Sorry, thought you were talking to me. It's funny how some things get better with driver releases, but things that did work in the past no longer work sometimes.

Like I said, I have to do these ridiculous workarounds in order to get all my monitors at 120hz. Try booting up with only the monitor that you can't get to 120hz and then hot plug the others in after to get into windows. That seems to always work for me, and yes it's stupid.

So no one has any advice except for clean install of windows and drivers, which I've already done on numerous occasions?

I have no 'hands on' crossfire experience but I saw someone (another thread) having troubles using CF on a 144Hz setting which he resolved by adding a second CF-bridge. Do you use 1 or 2 CF-bridges?
