Yup, exactly what I thought they were doing. Streaming box for the living room, ties into your home PC where all your games are, streams them to your tv. Exactly what most of us expected, or should have expected. Now they just need to announce the hardware in 2 days, and then announce that it won't be stupidly overpriced, and we're golden.

My hopes are that the Steam OS will be designed to be installed on any variety of homebuilt and retail built systems and the only requirement is that the hardware used will be compatible and well suited for the OS itself. That way I can have a nice lowpower APU based living room system running my home theater

So many questions!!!!!

I would love for something like this to be made for PCs now. Where you log in to a separate OS from windows so that there is added performance to games and better support for games without the complications of so many factors of software having issues with games.

YES! From the look of some of the description itself... it says... and I quote... "SteamOS, running on any living room machine," which possibly means that it will run on ANY PC. Then what I look forward to... "we have achieved significant performance increases in graphics processing,"

I wonder if we would need to get special Steam drivers and other random things... OMG... THE POSSIBILITIES ARE ENDLESS!! They are ushering a NEW AGE OF PC GAMING!!!! biggrin.gif

Or just simply looking for a way to compete with the new wave of consoles and it might not be compeletly flushed out where only a handful of games support it and driver support will be spotty... hopefully that's not the case. tongue.gif

Yeh,

Being someone who adopted 64bit cpus early on, and waitied for Microsoft and game developers to get off their asses and develop games in the most modern methods I have become angry at how lazy theses asshats are. We have been playing games in direct x9 for near a decade now and something has needed to change. Valve may have just announced the catalyst to the next gaming renaissance and it has nothing to do with a breakthrough in pc hardware or Microsoft, Google, or any other computer mogul.

I think a lot of people saw this coming to be honest. That said, I think it's nothing but good for consumers. My hope is that it will bring about some much needed change in OS development and force them to actually get around to making some of the much needed changes that have been on gamer's minds. Guy above me mentioned Direct X as one culprit of this.

My personal hope is that the entire OS will be completely streamlined in regards to performance and not for the extra bloat that gamers don't want or need during their gaming sessions.
