Ok i just got done with building my first c2d/intel box ever. Got windows loaded on it and everything just fine. Now i want to know how to overclock an intel.

I have the 6300, gigabyte ds3 mobo and curcial ddr2 1000 ram.

Right now its running stock with about 35c on the cpu with stock cooling. The ram is at 1.9v and running ddr2 800.

I just want to get the most out of the ram and cpu untill i can upgrade to another chip.

First off, congradulations. Upgrading your System Specs won't hurt either. Okay, so I'd not push your CPU too far since your running stock air cooling but you should get a nice 2.4GHz or higher on stock air cooling. I'd try 400FSB x 8 Multipler then put your ram add DDR2 800, so you run a 1:1 ratio, and tighten up those timings.

Nice! If you want a very cheap alternative to CPU Cooling you could lap that HS/F (Heatsink Fan) and apply Arctic Silver 5. Lapping requires Grit 200, 400, 600, 800, 1000, 1200, 1400, 1600, 1800, and/or 2000 Sandpaper and you sand the base of the HS/F down so it's flatter, helping cooling your CPU. I would recommend using Grit 200, 400, 600, 800, 1200, and 2000 to get a nice smooth finish without putting in more than enough time. Next, applying Arctic Silver 5 will help cool your CPU. Those two together should only set you back about $30. Another alternative, apart from getting an 80 dollar Zalman, is to get an Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 for your CPU, those run cooler than the stock HS/F from intel yet they'll only set you back a mere $30. Together, shipped, those three products will be cheaper than a Zalman 9700. They should provide better temps as well.

Good Luck!

Yeah i had a G power pro that i had lapped for my 4400+ but it will not work with the mobo because it conflicts with some capacitors buy the socket. I do have as5 applyed. I set it to 400x7 which is the highest multi i can run with the chip. The memory is running at 1:1 with it at 800. I am currently running 2.8 with stock volts on everything. Temp is sitting around 26c. I need another temp program that i can see if the easytune 5 is reading correctly.

That's a nice overclock going on there. I forgot that the E6300 only has a 7x Multiplier compared to the E6400's 8x. I don't think you need to push that farther, you have a great balance of speed and low heat. And previously, I didn't mean 400x8 (3.2GHz - 3200MHz) I was thinking a 300x8 (2.4GHz - 2400MHz).

Core Temp & Intels TAT are good but if your motherboard has any software with it then that can be just as good

Also, to check your system specs on the fly you should pick up CPU-Z if you have not already done so.
