Corsair H100i fan and thermal paste help.

Thread Starter
Hi all. I need advice.

I have a Corsair H100i with the stock fans. I want to replace the fans with a higher CFM set of fans for better cooling. Looking for recommendations. I don't know what the stock CFM of the fans it comes with are, but they go up to 2500rpm under load.

I need fans that are low profile and the same depth as most standard 120mm fans, because my case is a little cramped, and as you can see if I add thicker fans I won't be able to mount the radiator because of my 8 pin and 4 pin CPU connectors at the top of my board. This means fans like Ultra Kazes are out:
Click to see the inside of my case (Click to show)

I also have a 230mm fan inside my top panel that came with my case (Azza Solano 1000R). It's slow rpm wise and doesn't move much air. I'm wondering if I replace it if it would help because right now it seems like it might be bottlenecking the push fans on the bottom of the radiator, meaning the 230mm fan can't exhaust the hot air being pushed through the rad.

I am also looking for a thermal paste that gives better temps than Arctic Silver 5. I've used IC7 Nano Diamond and I didn't like it because it didn't spread well, it was hard to clean, and the temps were 2C higher than cured AS5. Someone recommended Shin Etsu paste to me and I tried it and it was 10C hotter than AS5, so please don't recommend that garbage. I know there's newer pastes out there that aren't silicon based that work better than AS5 but I'm not sure what they are.

If anyone is wondering, under full load in Prime95 at 4.7ghz, 1.475v, my socket goes to 68C and cores go to 55C. I think this cooler can do better than that. I can run 5ghz but it takes 1.575v and gets way too hot during stress testing. See sig rig.

Thanks for the help.

You want fans with a high static pressure rating for radiators, not CFM. Almost all fans are a standard 25mm in height so look for those. Scythe Gentle Typhoons might be right for you, you can get the 1450rpm version or 1850rpm, or go even faster/louder if you want. The 1850rpm are barely audible, just depends on your tatse.

As for the paste, you can try liquid metal pastes like liquid ultra, although it might be a pain to remove later. MX-4 has worked for me in the past also.

Thanks for the response.

I'm looking at getting some Corsair SP120 high static pressure fans, Prolimatech PK-2 Nano TIM, and a better Bitfenix 230mm fan for the top.

Yeah the corsair static pressure fans are considered good quality and give good performance. The Prolimatech tim is also good. I'd recommend getting 2 120mm instead of a 230 if you can, they usually move more air.

Yeah, I'm getting 2 Corsair SP120s for the bottom of the rad. My case already has a low rpm 230mm fan in the top panel above where the radiator sits so my config is push-pull. Look at the pics in my sig rig. I think the stock 230mm fan that came with my case doesn't move enough air, so I'm gonna replace it with a Bitfenix 230mm fan that moves more air.
