ASUS Commando is the latest addition to ASUS motherboard family R.O.G. (Republic Of Gamers) and as usual the target audience is the extreme users such as gamers and overclockers. ASUS Commando is based on Intel's P965 Express chipset and the manufacturer has said that it has overclocked the board to 2280MHz FSB (4*570) during overclocking sessions in the lab. 570MHz FSB is actually quite impressive if its been done without any extra cooling or modifications to the board. ASUS has fitted the board with tons of features to boost the overclocking as we can see an 8-phase PWM and applications for changing frequency, memory settings and voltages.

ASUS Commando is looking like a very interesting alternative for overclockers if they can expect to reach similar results as ASUS did during its tests. The only real disadvantage we can see with the board is that the P965 chipset doesn't support NVIDIA's SLI technology but only AMD's CrossFire technology. The price of the board will be about $260 when it arrives in January.

That board is not very good....
It won't run 8800 SLI, and it doesn't support future 1333mhz cpu's , wich is not something you want in a board this expensive.

It's currently the best P965 board but what i don't like about this board is the fact that you won't get 2 16X lanes for PCI-E.

Exactly.
And it may overclock very well, but that doesn't compensate the fact that it supports only one G80.
I hope R600 can use crossfire on 8x+8x.

Can you change the fsb strap to allow 1333 fsb ability like in previous models? I agree, for something this expensive, it should come with that, but there may be options that still make the board worth while. At $260, this is a little pricy, but at least its not the striker....

$220 would make this a great deal, I think. I am not a fan of daughter cards, and especially not integrated sound. Thats something I DONT want to be paying for, but the diagnostic tools and LEDs onboard and such, well, those are nice eye candy.

The headers for SATA are in a nice place, and the colors rock. I think, like most of ASUS's releases, if the price gets reasonable, they could have a serious board on their hands.

Whats the point of this? a more expensice P5B Deluxe?? Stupid imo. Its already like $180 bucks, thats quite a bit for a premium board, and now they just made it more expensive.

This one has voltage settings for Vdimm up to 3.2V? It has an insane amount of voltage tweaks at a fair price.
