My sound card is "buzzing" druing 3D aplications. (not throught speakers)

So my sound card makes noise of varying levels depending on the game I play even during the Heaven benchmark. What I want to make clear is, is that the noise or buzzing is coming from the card itself not through headphones, speakers or anything like that. What is the cause, could it be electromagnetic interference? If so what is the best solution?. I already have the sound card as far from my GPU that is possible.

Is there any solutions to my problem?

How did you come to the conclusion it's your soundcard? That sounds like a typical case of coil whine to me and is most likely coming from your GPU.

What you're hearing is probably coil whine. Are you sure the sound isn't coming from your GPU? It's high frequency and difficult to pin point. It's not unusual at all for some GPU to make a little squeal when they're under extremely heavy load, e.g. benchmarking or folding, etc. I haven't heard of a sound card making the noise (at least not through headphone/speaker connections due to EMI/RFI interference).

Is there no buzzing sound when the pc is idling? I have this effect too but only with my microphone. If I use a microphone and play a game or run a benchmark everyone in TS or skype hears a buzzing noise. Really annoying after all.
So I say its interference. If there is a solution or so I would like to hear it. Onboard works btw fine.

This. Make sure it isn't from your video card or PSU, it would surprise me if it really was from the sound card. There's not a lot of current flowing through it.

Sorry it took so long to get back to you but I can tell you that I was not aware of coil whine and that I've never encountered it before, I guess I have been lucky until now. I had had some other problems with my sound card and after listening inside the case I thought the noise came from the sound card, I guess it was just a case of confirmation bias.

I've mitigated the problem by running either adaptive or "full" vsync. It's not gone completely but I read about a tip where you leave a game menu running for a long period of time which causes a lot of coil whine. I guess it's because of the high fps. This would then either reduce or completely remove the coil whine, fingers crossed.

If there are any other ways of mitigating coil whine please let me know and thanks for teaching me about the real culprit to this infuriating noise biggrin.gif.
