New sound card?

Thread Starter
Im sure you guys know there are better cards, and headphones etc

but i got my new Creative Sound Blaster ZXR + Sennheiser 558's in and my god.... coming from on board sound and turtle beach px21's i love music again smile.gif idk if any of you posted when i asked about a sound card but im loving it!

how would i go about about adjusting the settings for optimal use, i usually listen to alternative, hard rock, and country with mixtures of other things. Thnx ahead of time!

yeah... I would imagine you are

I listened to the 558's just earlier this week .... they are quite nice sounding... I do sort of wish I had a pair of 558s or maybe 598s myself.

I started my own move from cheap headset and onboard audio sometime ago...

mostly right now I use my FiiO E07K /E09K (although mostly I will drive my headphones with one of 4x (lol...don't judge me) vintage receivers/preamp I have hooked up to my computer

1. SX-3600 2. Kenwood KR-V106R 3. Yamaha C-60 4.Pioneer VSX-D1S

my headphones

1. ATH-M50 (w/ Shure 840 earpads) 2. Pioneer SE-A1000 3. JVC HA-RX700 4. (60s vintage) Hal Leonard headphones model 40-401 5. Senn 419's

I also have a bunch of speakers hooked up in my office here

1. DCM Timeframe TF-250 2. Monitor Audio Silver S1 3.NHT SuperZero's 4. Optimus Pro X44AV

(not sure if i have enough stuff in here????) I also have a pretty awesome Hitachi PS-48 turntable hooked up in here and a Sony C75ES cd changer and a Pioneer CT-6MR (6 cassette changer).

what is my point...oh right it all started w/ those JVC HA-RX700s and finding that they revealed how abysmal the on board audio was

I have bought this stuff over time and got pretty good prices on basically most of it..but all in all it adds up $ wise and of ccouse desk / shelf space wise.

here is a pic

be-warned ...it is a slippery slope and it is easy to end up with a house full of audio gear... and a wife shaking her head in frustration whistle.gif

I upgraded to the Creative Sound Blaster ZXR about four months ago. I am using the Turtle Beach PX51 cordless headphones because I just had to have cordless.

I don't listen to a lot of music mostly just for gaming. So far very happy with the sound card! Nice set up you have there with the Sennheiser's.

wait... Are you using 3.5mm jacks to connect it to the soundcard? If you are not, you are not even using the main feature of the soundcard (DAC).
If you are using optical, any of the cheapest soundcards with DDL! encoding can do the same (Xonar DX, recon3d, sbz...).
