Replacement for my 5870

Thread Starter
So I have had issues with my 5870 for close to as long as I've had it, but could never find where I bought it or anything so I never sent it back, with my recent purchase of Final Fantasy 14 I have to bit the bullet and buy a new graphics card. The game is near unplayable with the artifacting and black screens/freezes. I'm not in a position to do a total rebuild, I planning to do one about a year out. So what card should I get to replace this 5870? Obviously a performance card is not an option since it will be choked to death by my other components. If you want to see what it does here is my thread from a year ago: Link! Or perhaps what it looks like as I try to heal a dungeon in FF14: Pic!. Anyhoo, I'll be ordering something in ~22 hours, what shall it be?

Whats your budget your 920 is a fine cpu if you give it a 3.8-4.2ghz overclock it will keep up with any gpu.

You'll be surprised that 920 can handle most cards, and with a nice overclock you'll be set. I don't know your budget but if I was you I would go with a 7870 or a 7950 since you get free games too. if you hate AMD or don't care about the games then you can get a nice gtx 660 or a 580 from eBay. I have seen some really cheap 580's lately up on eBay and even a new one which cost less than a 7790 biggrin.gif

if it's a really weird case of artifacting it may not be a cracked BGA but, a bad vram chip.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814131458

that powercolor has some PHAT heat pipes and nice PCB support. i have my eye on one of their 7850's i found a german review that it pointed an extra VRM phase. if this card is any thing like the one i'm eying it should look pretty good paper and hopefully perform well and be reliable.

the 7850 i'm looking at, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814131472

had it not been the ONLY card like it and that meets my requirements i probably would have though twice about powercolor but, it looks like some of their gfx cards might not be half bad.
