Dell 420/Duel PIII 555Mhz 2 gigRAM 3x scsi HDD

Hello, I have recently acquired three of these server boxes, and I am unsure whether it is worth resurrecting the dead in this case for say a file server or multimedia server? Any thoughts appreciated. Other thoughts: I have a couple p4 systems, one has 2 gigs ram, the other has 1 gig ram. Both are on IDE drives. Whats my best choice here?

Put them back in the garbage bin where you got them from.

good news is, they weigh around forty pounds a piece. Even at steel prices that's around $10.80 biggrin.gif

Edit: PS, save your beer cans for a year and build a $500.00 server biggrin.gif

Will run a CS 1.6 server beastly lmao!

Should be plenty good to run a file server for the house, if you don't already have one.

555MHz.... LOL. Not that I'm bashing them, but the amount of power you'd need for the amount of processing power just doesn't make sense. You'd be better off trying to list them to maybe someone who likes to collect old servers, or just find a way to get something for them. A used net-top would have more power for a server.
