Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos (often referred to as War3 or WC3 or RoC) is a high fantasy real time strategy video game released by Blizzard Entertainment on July 3, 2002 (US). (7 years later!!!)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warcraft_III:_Reign_of_Chaos

Starcraft : March 31, 1998
Starcraft 2 : July 27, 2010 (12 years)

Diablo 2 : June 29, 2000
Diablo 3 : May 15, 2012 (12 years)

If you are going to try and argue a point please back it up with accurate information. Starcraft 2 went into the EARLY development phases almost right after Starcraft : Brood War was launched. Same with Diablo 3 and Warcraft 3 (with their predecessors.)

Warcraft 2:Battle.Net Edition launched in 1999...a Windows Game with complete re-writes of much of the game. If you want to include the DOS version you might as well include Warcraft : Orcs vrs Humans. Plus the development time was probably only a half the time in between releases. No way to really know...just like they probably whipped up starcraft 2 in a couple years as well...it was not in development for 12 years. Any development after Broodwars on it would have consisted of "Hey, we should make a sequel" "Hey good idea...write that down."

I've been playing HoTS (that's what we call it) super pre-alpha, friends and family, lo-res, no texture edition for about a week now. It's totally sick and will revolutionize MMOs. It's like a cross between Tekken, Bloodbowl, and Forza 5, but set in a futuristic Star Wars-esque universe.

Can you imagine just how epic that would be? lol. Replace Tekken with Dead or Alive then add in GTA, Crysis, and Hawken to call it a day. Could see Blizzard at the announcement revealing that, dropping a mouse, and walking off stage.

if you think about it, "Titan"...well aren't Heroes (Raynor, Kerrigan, Zeratul) kind of like titans in the blizzard universe?

My guess, very very early idea of the newfangled Titan.

While it launched in DOS, a windows 3 compatible version was launched the same year in a battlechest version.

Hmm never heard of it, though comparing a Windows 3 release to the Battle.net edition is probably not a good idea. They could not have been similar. The 1999 release probably took a couple years of work itself...especially with Blizzard's pace.

You know what? It really doesn't even matter. Their development schedules are completely ridiculous. Their products are far from perfect at release...it has been a while since I played it but I think Starcraft 2 is up to patch 2.0.10 by now and at launch was plagued with a fair amount of issues. I can't see how Activision management allows it. If I was that pokey with my work with the excuse that it must be perfect when it is done I'd have been fired in 15 minutes. To even think making perfect software is possible is crazy...or at least not a platform like the PC.

There is no defense for Blizzard and it isn't getting hard to find people that will say they have no interest in any game they make. I still do as I know they should have the resources and talent to make something incredible...but they don't do it. I'd really like to know why. I guess it really isn't important though...plenty of other game developers making good games with much shorter development times that I can give my money to.

Dude you have no idea what you are talking about. The b.net edition is the SAME game, they just added the ability to play via b.net rather than dialup/lan. Lol (i bought the game the day it came out) a little balancing and thats it. Same game entirely.

Activision doesnt let them do anything, its a joint partnership hence the name Blizzard/Acitivision. Second they can have LONG dev times because they deliver more than most companies out there. Name ONE game that didnt sell incredibly well. D3 is still going very strong, ya it had issues but its the only game that really did from them and theyve fixed most of them by now on top of more planned.

Research before you post here again.

WoW is still the largest MMO out there with their massive drop recently in subscribers.

You suffer from blind hate at them just because they dont pump out games lol. Id rather they take their time and release yet another gem.

The 1999 release of b.net edition was to follow the release of d2 which was the birth of b.net. it was the beginning of a social gaming platform. WC2 was such a highly played game it was a logical step for them to include it with true online gameplay.

all they need to do is balance it for esports give us battle.net and give the community tools to make a campaign for it. they dont even need to waste time with that (making a campaign). just give us balanced multiplayer for esports and ill take a moon + grubby comeback please, thanks.
