Foobar Questions

Thread Starter

Hi,

Just got to Foobar after Winamp pooped itself for the last time.

1. One thing Winamp had was visualizations with Milkdrop, and with a click of the button, Winamp will show only visualizations. Here is a picture to show you what Winamp looks like.

http://img513.imageshack.us/img513/7668/mzp.png

Notice how there is a row of tabs... "Media Library" which would typically show all my songs, albums, etc (but isn't due to the database rolling over and playing dead) and then "Videos" and then "Visualizations". I think I know how to add visualizations to Foobar, even with Milkdrop, which is by default a Winamp application, but I don't want it to be like... just kindda there the entire time, in some window, some part of the screen. When I want to see visualizations, I want most of Foobar to be showing the visualizations, not have it be in a 3 inch box.

But sometimes I don't feel like looking at visualizations. Sometimes I do. When I don't, I don't want it on there at all.

2.

As you can see from the image above, the playlist likes to list the album name before displaying the actual track. That's very annoying for me, I'd like the playlist to display tracks just like the media library above the playlist area. See how all my tracks display one after another without big green letters displaying album name in the Library area?

Foobar also neglected a song I have despite already telling it to rescan the music folder. It's a low quality mp3 file, that one.

Thanks.

1. I think you can try making a new tab for the visualization that you want to use. If you haven't installed the Shpeck plugin yet, you might be interested in it since it can run Winamp visualizations. I haven't ever used it, so I can't say how well it works though.

Going from the screen shot you have above, it's pretty easy to add a tab row where you have the Facets filter right now. Firstly, I would backup the layout that you have just in case something gets messed up. Just go to: File > Preferences > Display > Default User Interface. Click on "Export Theme". Name it and save it somewhere. You can always bring this back by using "Import Theme".

Now go to: View > Layout > Enable layout editing mode. Hover over the Facets panel and right-click.

Click on "Replace UI Element...". A window will open and ask you what you want to replace it with. Click on "Tabs" (under the "Containers" section). Doing this will keep the Facets filter you have there but now add a row of tabs above it. You can rename tabs by right-clicking on them. Also you can add new tabs by right-clicking on the tab row and clicking "Add New Tab". Now you can add a new tab called "Visualizations", for example. Click on this new tab...you should just have a blank grey box. Right click on this and select "Add New UI Element...". From there you'll be asked to pick which UI Element you want. With Shpeck installed, it'll likely show up under the "Playback Visualizations" section. Again, I haven't used Shpeck so I can't say for sure.

Once you have it looking the way you want, you can exit the Layout Editing Mode. I hope this all makes sense. smile.gif

On a side note, if you haven't learned much about customizing foobar2000 layouts, this would be very beneficial to read up on. So much of the awesomeness about foobar2000 comes from customizing the layout to how you want it.

2. By default, the playlist is grouped...so, this is what you are seeing. To turn the grouping off, just right-click on one of the column titles in the playlist and go to: Groups > None.

Regarding missing the song in your library, I've had foobar do something similar on me once or twice. Normally I just rename the music file and foobar then picks it up no problem. I'm quite particular about the naming scheme with my music library, so I then change it back to the original file name and it's still OK for some reason. thinking.gif

Anyway I hope this clears up a few things. biggrin.gif

I'll take a look at the visualizations in just a bit. I got the playlist problem solved though!

I know Foobar can be customized, been trying to. I've tweaked the theme a bit... This is what it looks like by default: http://youtu.be/5um6NEMZGZo?t=6s

I don't see a point for an equalizer and a spectrumscope. I just plug in my best sound card, take out audio processing, and be done with it.

Thanks, +rep. Took a while for an answer but beats no answer! :devil-smi

Hey,

When I add any new tracks the song never shows up in the playlist. It's in the same folder, I tried changing the name and having it rescan the folder, but nothing.

I tried removing my directory, so Foobar shows zero tracks. Then I added the song manually. Nothing. Just a typical flac track. Any new music I add in after I originally installed Foobar can't be added.

Edit:

The new tracks show up under Library -> Album list.

But not in my library section!
