ASRock Z87 Extreme4 stuck at post screen

Thread Starter
Hi all,

About a month ago i upgraded to an ASRock Z87 Extreme4 which ive the latest bios and a 4670k keeping the rest components from my previous build. -see sig for further details-.

The cpu works fine @ 4.3 with 1.21v but my main ''problem'' is that when i connect some usb devices -3 to be exact- to either an external usb powered hub or to a usb hub using the extra usb ports from the mobo -at the bottom-, it gets stuck on post screen and needs a reset in order to boot into windows normally.I use all the onboard usb ports at the back of the mobo and unfortunately i need more so ive added this working usb card.

If i disconnect the devices from the usb card it boots fine every time and it gets stuck regardless the device since i tested each one of them separately.

Ive contacted asrock about it and they told me that i just have too many usb devices.

Is anyone else having a similar problem?Would a pcie usb card solve my issue?

Any thoughts-suggestions will be welcomed.

Thanks in advance!

Not uncommon for USB devices to drastically slow boot, but in your case it's simply not booting yes? Could a usb be set as a primary boot in any way in bios?

Latest bios version?

Correct jagz its not booting and it requires a reset to boot into windows. It always boots into windows the second time -after hitting reset- from cold boot.

Ive the latest bios -i did this first when i installed the mobo in my rig- and ive the ssd as my primary boot device.

I've had this issue with an old board such as the P5Q PRO, turns out that these two usb ports at the back of the board stops my motherboard from booting, but if I leave them unplugged, I get no boot problems, then I plug the usb stuff into those 2 slots when windows has booted, i think it's just bad luck..

I use all the USB ports on the back of my P8Z77-V LX, boots up so fast still. So I can rule out it isn't the problem with 'too many usb ports', but in the end. All motherboards are different.
