How much Radiator is enough?

Thread Starter
A question to those who have been doing this much longer than I? If I were wanting to add another 7970, or perhaps a 7990 to my loop, what kind of radiator options do I have?

I'm currently running a RS240 in the top of my H630, and a RX240 in the bottom. I'm planning to delid my processor which will eliminate quite a bit of heat. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

General rule of thumb, 120mm for each device, and then 120mm extra. So 1 cpu and 1 card will be 360mm rad. 1 cpu, 2 cards, a 480mm worth of rad space.

^That.

Pretty solid advice unless you flat out want to go crazy and fill your case with as much as you can.

The original question has been well answered, but I just want to point out that delidding does not in any way reduce the amount of heat your CPU generates. It makes your cooling more efficient by eliminating a heat-transfer bottleneck at the lid, which results in lower CPU temps, but the amount of heat created by the chip is the same. If anything, actually, delidding puts a little bit more demand on your radiators because the heat that would otherwise be trapped in the CPU is being drawn into your loop instead.

It seems to be a common misconception but your CPU puts out the same energy regardless of what kind of cooling you attach to it. The lid is in fact part of the cooling system (technically it's called a "heat spreader").

I've had a 360 with push/pull with all fans on a controller. It cools my 1090T OCed to 4ghz and 2 highly overclocked gtx 480s. I use the swiftech MCP655 on full blast with 1/2 tubing, FrozenQ T-virus res, Black Ice rad and all Koolance blocks. I've had amazing cooling, even with the fans inaudible. I can game on it with them silent. I crank them up for benchmark tests. I'm not sure if its because I have my rad mounted externally with a bracket but it really keeps my system cool. I'd say you could get away with 360 with a fan controller IMO. Best of luck!
