Yup, pretty much this. R9 280X already pulls 4400 on max overclocks, I don't believe AMD would want their top card to be beaten like this from a GPU which is based on close to 2 year old Tahiti chip. Then again, a +99MHz GTX 780 scores just over 4800 FS-E pts, so who knows? tongue.gif

Sorry for the dp, but...

Radeon R9 290X Features 64 ROPs
Quote:
A leaked company slide by AMD confirmed that its high-end "Hawaii" silicon indeed features 64 raster operations units (ROPs). In reference to its predecessor, "Tahiti," the slide speaks of 2 times the ROPs (32 on "Tahiti") and 1.4 times the stream processors (2048 on "Tahiti," so 2816 on "Hawaii"). Other known specifications include up to 1 GHz GPU clock, up to 5.00 GHz memory clock, and a 512-bit wide GDDR5 memory interface, holding 4 GB of memory. Reviews of Radeon R9 290X could surface around mid-October.

48, then 44, now 64 ROPs. Which one is it? 6 more days until we know for sure.

since this is the first actual AMD slides we've seen with this info, I'd say 64 is the actual count. Most numbers before were sites releasing what they had or likely a typo.

I agree. 44 just seemed off the whole time.

why not ? for the first time in ages the top AMD card has more ROPs than the top Nvidia card. I have always felt AMD were slow to move to higher ROP counts. the 64 ROPs configuration can last for another 3 generations at the high end. AMD has laid the foundation for atleast 3 generations now. 28nm R9 290X , 20nm R9 390X, 16 FF R9 490X.

What I am saying is that anyone with half a brain knows by now it is going to compete with the Titan. We don't need you to keep stating the obvious... lol
