however if mantel are providing serious performance bump to AMD, Nvidia will really need work really hard to overcome this gap with a much more superior hardware. The same thing how they did with Geforce 2 GTS vs 3dfx Voodoo 5 on glide.

Honestly I am looking for just 10-20% performance bump at best for mantel. It won be a super bump. not 100% lol:rolleyes:

I am just glad I pick 7790 over Nvidia's GTX650Ti.biggrin.gif

yeah im not expecting mantel to be a 100% increase on games like amd is suggesting at, probably 10 to 20% maybe, still a nice performance increase though.

Titan will most likely EOL within the coming 5 months, and probably at the 1k price still lol, hopefully it drops the price on 780s though cuz i know lots of friends that want 780s but can really only get two if they are at around the 500 price range lol, but even then, the 290x might be the better option, all depends on how mantle turns out, and how the 290x performs compared to gk110 cards.

They probably tested with AMD cpu's rolleyes.gif

I'll even admit it does seem your attitude has changed a bit regarding AMD. Though that doesn't make you a fanboy.

So noone got out of there and leaked some info? My feelings about it is i wasted two hours of my time to see an announcement of a naming scheme we already knew about and the one thing we cared about (the price) wasn't shown. I didn't even need benches i just wanted to know the price of the 290x. It's frustrating when you think about it.

I never knew that AMD would use a 512 bit memory bus on GDDR5, though its been a while since GDDR5 has been out and about time that they decided to use the 512 bit memory bus again, interested to see how this performs. Hopefully it won't be a flop like the 2900XT.

with having Forstbite 3 fully support it, this is already a very good head start. I do not expect these "optimization" or low level metal API will bring the kind of performance gain we see in console.

This is "a more specialize API than what DirectX can do" but less than what we see in console. Since AMD will need this to work in all the future GCN arch.

And I dont think AMD will bother doing all these API if they only get a puny <10% gain. This API will give GCN at least 10% to as high as 20% to be worth all these trouble implement it.

IMO, for me 10% gain is already a pretty good reason to use Mantel if I have GCN GPU. That 10-20% gap is pretty significant to Nvidia because they have to make a GPU 20% more powerful to get same performance in DirectX

GCN is great at compute, the HD7970 Ghz isn't actually that far behind the Titan a lot of the time...This will probably beat or match a Titan in compute performance at least. I'm not even going to bother to comment on the 3DMark because..well, it's not a real game and the performance is merely above that, not equal...we also don't know clocks or overclocks, it could easily end up like the HD7970/HD7950 where it's slower at stock but ends up coming a lot closer OCed.

Everyone seems to be ignoring the fact that it's clearly >7700, not equal to it...You can clearly see that the top is shaded out and that the graph is fairly imprecise and that on the other GPUs slides, all the numbers are marked as "Greater Than".
AMD is just saying "You'll definitely get this level of performance, maybe get more".

I'm hoping this will be around $500-$550...I wanna get two and start playing with Eyefinity.

Well I have put my 7990's up for sale, although the event was piss poor, I have high hopes for this card.
Hoping for $550, expecting it to be $630 or something like that.

Actually it's the way how he talks. Whenever he speaks in the favor of a particular company (be it Intel/NVIDIA or AMD) it makes him look like a fanboy which doesn't seems to be the case after this statement of his.

Posted this in the other thread, but figured I'd post it here as well as it relates to the discussion. Was still semi-tempted to get a 780 after the announcement, but this article got rid of that notion in a heartbeat. biggrin.gif

"Much Faster Than Titan in Battlefield 4" Lol, meaning my GCN-based HD 7850 will also be faster than the GTX 760 in Battlefield 4 as well, because of Metal. It's just a marketing stunt, nothing much.
