It would be easy for them to make the code not redeemable until BF4 launches.

To get into it I did type out "by October 29th." Leaving the possibility that it can be earlier than October 29th.

Usually people here say it when the event is happening a few days before a certain date. But, ok, not everyone is alike.

Unless Nvidia comes up with something, Amd will always be faster if most of the Games used Mantle and highly optimized for Amd cards.

That's a big, big if.

I read these marketing materials from amd and there are so many should and ifs it's hard to take it as fact till we actually see the results.

Glide worked great for 3dfx but that was when direct x was pretty much complete garbage. I would be surprised if it has as big of a boost as some are expecting. I could be wrong though, just my view on it.

Don't take this as me saying mantle is pointless or anything either. I'm just saying until we actually see how big of a boost it brings and how many devs actually utilize it it will be hard to judge just how much this will help amd.

I don't think it's unrealistic. AMD's been working on Mantle for 2 years along with the xbone ps4 systems, they'll have made porting from the console API to mantle very easy and cheap.

And all the exclusives would be very easy to port to PC too - and more importantly so cheap that devs would be denying themselves a large revenue source by not porting to Mantle. We may even end up with a situation where all "exclusives" are available to PC gamers - though only if on AMD.

Enjoying that pie in the sky? I like how so many amd users here are all for open api's and completely anti closed till amd has a closed api and suddenly who cares about open, we have mantle!

These low level api's are harder to work with and most devs will probably stick with dx11. Yes it will give amd an advantage when used but as of now we have no idea how wide spread it will be.

From my limited understanding, open apis wouldn't work. To make that as low-key as possible (and thus best performance) AMD and Nvidia would have to collaborate on making GPU architectures. Yeah... not gonna happen.

AMD have instead taken advantage of the fact game devs are optimising for GCN by saying "Here's an easy cheap PC port" with the potential to blow away Nvidia. I never had anything against the Titan nor the 780 (or even 770) - they were priced appropriately according to business sense. I have AMD simply because I cannot afford Nvidia, but it's good to see AMD being proactive in getting it'[s customers better performance for their money. If Nvidia had done it I wouldn't care, so long as I got more value for money.

AMD fans are obviously going to be sky-high if the supposed boost from mantle is true. They would get price and performance in that case.

If Mantle does have the gains it says then I would expect Nvidia to create a higher level software that would take the Mantle commands and map them to Nvidia. IT would obviously have overheads that Mantle wouldn't but it might still be better than DirectX.

What I don't like about Mantle - when we move on from GCN are the Mantle only PC games even playable anymore?
