Also i got single gpu, and i dont' play games lately why would i need i7? your just getting way much defensive about this. Also e-peen? you got 780 3x sli, no logic again to talk about it.
Yes you don't need the biggest cpu to game for single gpu, for 3x you NEED.
Few games take advantage of the extra threads that come w/ the most of the i7s. And if they do, its not a huge difference. BF3 is one of them but I hardly play that.
If my lowly 2700k can match a 3930k and my 4670K is better then my 2700k, what does that tell you? Your assumption is not valid. You conclude this because most reviews and highend multi gpu setups use a top of the line cpu. When it comes to gaming, especially surround gaming, the gpu is most important. The cpu just has to ensure its not creating a road block (ie bottle neck). Heck, I can run at 4.5 and still prevent a bottle neck. So far, I know anything below 4.4 will slow down my gpu(s) but above that, it won't hold them back. With the 2700K, there was never once a difference running 4.7 from 5.0 in Surround. Changing gpu did on the other hand and that's why I kept my lowly SB for a while. Haswell change was to finally move on to pcie 3.0 and I happened to adore the Sniper5 Z87 board.
If you're not sure about this, go to the Surround thread. We have members running 920s w/ two or three Titans. We have guys running SB cpu w/ triple 1440 monitors.
Maybe, down the road, extra threads and cores will be an advantage but as it stands now, I'm right up there w/ the big cpu(s). Heck, this chip might easily push beyond 5.0. And it was cheap! Can't argue with that? Proof is in the pudding, kinda of hard to believe a little cpu can do that? Just look at your SB i5
Btw, calling someone out for their hardware, you're looking to pick a fight. I can easily pick apart your rig(s) and criticize them but I'm not here for that.
