Your 670 does not need an upgrade either. It is more for Fermi owners like me.

I just need to find out what retailers are going to have it for pre-order.

for normal gaming every day use yeah it would be fine to stick with 780s/titans, but im in it for the maximum.....pursuit of performance blushsmiley.gif

Hmm I agree if you don't have information about how the card will perform it is pointless to purchase it. I know I'll probably be cross firing 280X unless the 290X happens to match the performance of 280X in CF for same price... But that will never happen. Use your brain before you buy or else you might suffer from buyers remorse!
buyers remorse is the worst lol, i had it when the 780 classifieds were coming out, and toppled the titans for a while, but then we got the voltage hack, and everything was fine and dandy thumb.gif

then i ended up getting 780 classifieds cuz i couldnt stand not trying them first hand tongue.gif

When I like to play my games are high/max settings on my 120hz monitor I do. My single 670 doesn't cut it. I used to have two of them in SLI and that was decent enough.

I still doubt that the card is even going to match a 780 in most things, especially once OC'd.

1) AMD's firestrike score puts it at ~17% faster than a 7970GHz. (or not even a 7970GHz as the comparison was done against the 280X and the latest info is that AMD is again favoring efficiency and actually will not clock the 280X as high as the 7970GHz)

2) Price is lower than that of the 780

3) AMD clearly does not want to reveal clear performance numbers and they're always referring to efficiency, or software optimizations

4) to quote the VC article about the leaked Korean benches:
Quote:
The leaker claims that his sample could run at 1020 MHz core clock and 1250 MHz memory clock. That would be the peak performance for the new Radeon (we don’t know yet if this is the reference clock). You may think that 1250 MHz clock for the memory is not very high, but that’s due to wider memory bus. This is in fact 5Ghz effectives peed with a bandwidth of 320 GB/s. The Radeon R9 290X will operate at lower clock (something between 800 to 900 MHz), It has dual-BIOS feature for a reason. Some actually call it Turbo mode. With this feature enable the card will go much higher (near 1 GHz in boost mode), but this will significantly increase the TDP.

And now they're asking people to pre-order these things without knowing specs or performance... I'm sorry but all I hear is "underwhelming launch incoming".

Gibbo from OCUK told us already. Not much info at hands, it seems.

A 780 is also faster than your 770, and at least you know what you're getting in return. wink.gif
