I own my own little pc shop in SA, I have a good client base, nothing like the big companies but since the mantle news dropped I've gotten 30 back orders for R9 290X BF4 editions.
To put that into perspective, when the Titan launched I had 6 back orders. That's a big difference.

A close friend of mine owns the largest online shop in SA and he has confirmed the exact same thing, huge amount of back orders, more than we've ever seen with anything from AMD.

Being in the news section is one thing, as its all about hype rolleyes.gif and getting people to buy you products based on blind faith is another.

I saw your exact post on overclockers.uk too, but sorry, don't know where your shop is and who your friend is. Unless AMD opens its kimono on detailed specs and people have real reviews, this pre-order gimmick ain't going anywhere.

Interestingly enough it's down to $699 now, or $589 with a Sabertooth 8GB RAM, and an H60. eek.gif

AMD and price drops go hand in hand, I wonder why. rolleyes.gif

What does that have to do with anything?

There are still people who believe that price is an indicator of quality. rolleyes.gif

That said, the 9590 was never worth the cost and still isn't. But if the 290x and Mantle are any indication AMD looks to be becoming much more aggressive, hopefully something that carries over to the CPU division.

Now maybe it was just someone speculating, but wasn't it mentioned that AMD was giving some Mantle-to-DX conversion software for ease of transition from console to PC.

I heard someone else say (only once) that it would make the port to DX easier.
While this should be possible (to some extent) I think it's wrong. Here's how I understand it.

GCN has a very basic language. Consoles have their own api in which games are programmed. For PC there is an api called mantle. This is very similar to the console api but obviously going to have some differences. This makes porting to Mantle quite easy.

DirectX takes abstract commands (draw a line) and turns them into language GPUs understand. So, theoretically, if you could reverse this process you would end up with a DX version of the game. Obviously you'd have to go through and do stuff manually, but that's the only way I can see that this will make porting to DX easier.

BUT I don't think Mantle is the API for consoles. Think of it like American "English" vs British English.

I concur I myself lost a point on my Mastering Physics because the Americans don't know how to spell aluminium instead they throw half the characters out the window. (they do this with a lot of things I mean colour -> color)

Everything slower than gtx 780 is a big NO NO in my book

Also, I laugh how people say Mantle with BF4.. is not a big deal. BF4 is the most anticipated game of a year. Stop posting BS info you know nothing about.
