[TPU] AMD Announces The Radeon R9 290X - Features 64 ROPs - Page 76

Pretty much, I just want to know the real specs and get some real benches. I wouldn't mind if it's faster than the 780 honestly, I've had almost half a year of having the best mainstream gpu's money can buy,(I guess you could consider titan mainstream but I just mean as a part of the regular graphics lines) that's worth the price premium imo.

My title just shows my anger at AMD for having a 3 hour GPU presentation and using 2 hours 59 minutes of that talking about audio. I wanted to know the 290X specs and its price, and they disappointed. Also whats wrong with my sig name?
thank you, nice to know some people understand tongue.gif

Referring to both your title and this"The NEW AMD Radeon Naming Scheme:
9970 is R2D2, 9950 is R2D2 LE, 9870 is R2D1, 9850 is R2D1 LE and so on"

No hard feelings biggrin.gif

Why not change your avatar photo to the AMD logo right now? That's all you need to complete your profile.

Um lol The reason why I have them there is because I have already placed a back order for them from our local supplier thumb.gif
Oh and I owned a Titan and a 780 and 680 sli and 670 sli...lol (Still have a 670 for testing purposes)

Has nothing to do with his sig rig...lol
I run Nvidia cards, I am far from a fanboy, I just wish people would stop thinking that AMD automatically has to price their cards lower.
So for argument sake, The R9 290X is 15% faster than a 780 (No idea about performance yet) and it comes with 6-8 AAA games do you think it should be priced lower than the 780? LOL

Yes, not sure why AMD was so coy about 290X specs considering they will probably be revealed in 2 weeks anyway.

There may be a 290 (non-x) that fits in your pricing cut off, just have to wait and see.

Look, when Nvidia release TITAN II with a fully enabled GK110, AMD will inevitably put out a GHz edition of this using 6 GHz memory

The r2d2 name thing was a joke because the new naming scheming was confusing wink.gif

I hope the 290 is cheap enough then!

Agreed. I'm hoping the 290 is 780 performance, whereas the 290x trades blows with Titan, with the 290 being $499 and 290x $599. That would then result in Nvidia lowering prices of the 780. That would be sweet.

checked in to see if any updates on this card...nope..people still, hoping, praying and wishing...okie dokie ..
My guess is this card is not ready for prime time yet, and this is why the delay in reviews, NDA, pre-order date, etc. ...
either way does not instill a lot of confidence in AMD's ability to deliver, after flip flopping on Oct 2nd pre -order date... I guess the live stream snafu was a good lead indicator of where things were headed with this release..
well, good luck to AMD!

What's the flip-flop on the Oct pre-release date (and it's the 3rd, right)?

That's what I meant, Oct 3rd.
Who knows..pick a date from now until Christmas and you may get it right. The 15th may just be a paper launch with NDA lifted and for pre-orders. But who the heck knows at this point.
