Of course not! They will screw it up with aftermarket coolers!
Very much like they did with the GTX 700 series stock cooler.

I have a buddy that has his 7970 @ 1380Mhz, and my 770 only tops it by a few points in 3dmark11 with higher clocks (which shows fairness), but he tottally destroys my score in firestrike with about 600+points lead.

I think it's safe to assume that 3dmark11 is fair.
3DM11 is heavily Nvidia bias and everyone knows it, firestrike is AMD bias. Valley is neutral, or was till people started cheating with software hacks lol .

Yes, everyone who buys nvidia buys it for the name and gimmicks. You figured it all out. No other possible reason there at all.

AMD has stated that they are not going after the extreme enthusiast gamer. This means the Titan folks. They are going after the GTX 780 (or at least should be). So anyone hoping or wanting or dreaming that AMD is going to kill a Titan is dreaming.

Having said that though, if AMD is trying to compete or beat the GTX 780 then I feel that they either don't have the card to do that with the R9-290x or they just completely failed with their presentation. If they are trying to tease us by withholding any actual data relating to the R9-290x - like actual bench marks and the price - then it didn't work. They way they went about the presentation makes me feel that this card actually doesn't compete with the GTX 780. They talked about all the cool other things about the new cards but not if it actually is at least just as fast.

I'm hoping that is does compete though because, as many people have already stated, we need the competition in price and performance. We need AMD to be able to keep up with the other guys to keep the prices of these cards in check. $600+ is way too much for a card that can properly play new games the way that the developers made them to be played.

They have about 1 week to release actual benches of their flagship card. If not then I will not, and I don't know why anyone would, be ordering their Battlefield 4 bundle.

Fingers crossed on this one but I really don't feel good about it.

This is VERY true but does it actually matter in games? Did AMD show anything today that shows that Mantle makes buying a new AMD GPU a good idea?

AMD presented videos and PowerPoints today and not real information. I'm hoping that in the next few days they release real information about the new cards and not more of that fluff that I sat 2.5 hours though today.

After watching that train wreck today I won't be buying anything from Amd anytime soon. What a disaster.
