Replace fans in Dell PowerVault MD1000 - Page 2

I admire your persistance latelesley smile.gif

I've since found on another forum that there aren't any offical molex 'male sockets' for fan leads, they're all thrid party offerings mostly from Asia.
I've stopped being a complete skinflint, have ordered some from ebay.

I'll post some pictures of completed leads and modded power supply, probably early next week.

I did eventually get round to replacing the fans the MD1400.

The Noctua fans are indeed very, very quiet. However at 32.6 CFM (132.6 for the original Delta PFC0812DE) they don't push enough air through the system.

I got a warning on sensor 6 ( I don't where it is or what the one monitors ) which was close to 90 c.

Oh well, nothing ventured nothing gained....

Verdict, in this case - Fail

Maybe you can try these fans? I just realised what size these fans are, 80mm x 38mm, it's going to be difficult to get quiet ones at that size. The two I linked above might be a good trade off though. They are in the mid-40s dBm noise wise, but be almost twice the airflow of the noctuas. I think the Evercool may be the better fan, I think it has more static pressure and the CFM rating is higher. It may just give you the balance between cooling and noise. It's never going to be silent at that size/speed, but it may just be bearable.
