It's one of the rare reviews so far that have overclocked CPUs, and not old stock x6 Intel chips showing little gains over DX or a cpu nobody here would ever run with a high end video card showing large gains.

mind you, in that same review he also says that the 7790 runs slower on Mantle than on DX.

It's a little all over the place atm with that review, i get that Nividia might have released a magic patch that makes their cards perform awesomely in a game that is the first to debut mantle a full 3+ months after the game comes out........coincidence right? tongue.gif

Is the 7790 supported, weren't there issues with 7xxx series having negative scaling with Mantle? Isn't this patch officially only supporting R290 series, with support for older GCN cards to follow?

The magic is probably 30% higher clocks than the 780 reviews previously linked and the support for Tiled Resources.

I don't need to try. The 780 reviewed is a GHz Edition with B1 stepping and a min boost clock of 1070MHz with actual being higher out of the box and the recent patch to add Mantle also added support for Tiled Resources which increases performance of video cards which was already supported on AMD cards giving them an advantage prior to the patch.

It's pretty cut and dry.

First time i see a 780 faster than a 290x by 30-40% even with 200 mhz advantage. Mantle removes cpu limitations mostly so they match 780 performance with mantle version. That means they get cpu bottleneck with the 290x and not with the 780?

Oh i see your rig now i get it. No offense to the other nvidia users but its obvious

Taken from the review in question and translated

"We also checked the performance of the graphics card configuration AMD Radeon HD 7790 - is the first system from the old series, which was equipped with a fixed unit GCN (the same as in series R9 and R7)."

So add 2-5% on top of 30% higher clocks.
