AMD MANTLE Discussion Thread - Page 134

After a round of 64 player Paracel Storm with mantle:

1440p True Ultra aka w/hbao 4msaa/ post high/ render 100%

Min:129.53 (4.21ms)
Max:237.53(7.72ms)
Avg:146.82(6.811ms)

Here is how to generate the benchmark and analyze it so far from what I think I figured out.

guide: ignore quotes do not type them
In game

1) press "`"

2.) type "perfoverlay.framefilelogenable 1"
do not add this to your user cfg as the data it generates while it loads is useless, wait til your in game and spawned.

3.) prior to exiting the game type ""perfoverlay.framefilelogenable 0"
if you don't do this the data at the end of your file will have huge numbers that are useless.

4.) once out of game navigate to the documents/Battlefield 4 folder and you should see a FrameTimeLog.csv file

5.) open this up with excel or libre office calc (it's free)

you should have a file that looks like this:

jh60.jpg

that first column A is all you really care about (I think for fps):

so just go use the following calcs to get min max and avg
where XX is the number of your last row in A
find an empty cell and type

"MIN(A1:AXX)"

in another empty cell type
"MAX(A1:AXX)"

in another empty cell type
"AVERAGE(A1:AXX)"

in the above pic it would look like
MIN(A1:A14)

That will give you the frametime avg, max, min in ms, now:
DIVIDE 1000 BY the MIN MAX AVG in ms ETC.. TO GET the min max avg FPS

Hope that helps. feel free to correct and/or add info and yes you could graph it as well if you want.

MANTLE Tests using my sig-rig (1090T@3.7GHz with a 280X-BE Stock Clock) on Windows 8.1 64bit

Conclusion: There is a noticeable improvement using Mantle for me; however, it comes at the price of an intermittent stutter/pause that I never once experienced using DX11. The only other issue I experienced was with my taskbar placement while using Mantle. I have a primary monitor with my taskbar on the left-side of the screen, and then a secondary monitor I use for BattleLog/Battlescreen while in game. If I launch using Mantle it pushes the image the distance of the taskbar to the second screen (even in fullscreen mode)... the only way to solve this is to auto-hide the taskbar prior to launching the game. Mantle has tremendous potential... especially considering it hasn't even been optimized for my card yet! Keep it up AMD!

Going Forward: I am going to do some more BF4 tests with my second monitor disabled to see if I can isolate the stutter/pause issue.

Did you get your tri fire to work at all?

Also did you have problems at first and if you did, what did you do to fix them

I just uninstalled the 13.12's rebooted in to safe mode ran DDU, rebooted again and installed the 14.1's.

All 3 cards seem to be working when I look at Afterburner after a game of BF4.

There are no programs with OSD that work anymore in mantle though since they all seem to rely on DX or OGL hooks (Afterburner,Playclaw,DXstory,Bandicam,Fraps etc..)

Haven't really had much time to test it, but I juts played a round earlier and I did get that weird dip stutter thing, so I think I will eventually go back to 13.12's after I do some benching.

Pretty impressed with mantle performance other than the weird stutter I got, and others get and the lack of OSD. I am sure that stuff will get better as time goes on.

Yeah my problem is BF4 once i get into game just dies. This seems to be a driver crash. I do have an overclock on the CPU so ill see if thats the problem but i doubt thats whats going on because i crash on DirectX and Mantle. Now ive done a clean install using driver sweeper and its all the same :/

So far Tf2 and insurgency is to be working fine no problems what so ever ( infact better performance )

If you use the desktop editor there is a button in the editor you can use, looks like a black comment box you'd see on a comic strip. Or you can do it manually with the spoiler tag:
Code:
[spoiler]stuff you want spoiled[/spoiler]

Now I just get white screens when I run BF4. It doesn't crash because I can alt-tab back to the desktop, but I have to close it with the task manager. So back to DirectX for now.

I have to say I feel very letdown with this driver release to point I have already done some conversations and emails and such to AMD themselfs the tester / reviewer driver was alot better than this crap driver release. I did full driver sweep fully uninstalled my drivers / graphics cards from device manager and did a full registry clean of my graphics driver shadow copies and all and 14.1 was horrible. That is saying something coming from me so you know.
Too bad you and many others are having problems but again this isn't up on AMD's website any longer and the one with the major issues ironed out should be released shortly. I myself didn't have problems but I'm on a VLIW4 card so that figures.
