8.1 has been good to me. im sure it has its issues but so far knock on wood i have only seen inprovements in performance. and the overal load on my box is alot lower. boot times are way up even without ssds so overal i like the feel of it. it has a lerning curve no doubt but once you get how to monuver threw it, its actualy a nice system. i have one system on windows 8.1 pro and my other is still on 7 pro both 64bit of course. so i run side by side tests. so far 8.1 has given me some good bumps. thumb.gif you can always go back to 7 lol.

However star swarm benchmark runs without issue in mantle mode and had a 51% higher FPS average over directX on a single 7970.

ok, what's your VRam usage with your single 7970 while you're running Star Swarms (Mantle)? thanks

However a memory leak is memory filled with unnecessary garbage or if it is not filled it remains reserved never to be given as available to the application again.

It would explain why Star Swarms doesn't stutter while BF4 does. I'm quite sure this is on the BF4 side and not in the driver it must be something extra that gets enabled the moment that it switches from DX to Mantle.
Try a ramdisk it should not get rid of the memory problem but it should greatly reduce the frame time spike caused by the swapping

Because buying 32 gigs of ram just for bf4 is realistic. You do realize bf4 install is like 26 gigs, dont you? So practically 32 gigs just for bf4 and another 16 for your system. I'd hardly call a RAM disk for bf4 practical.

My BF4 folder is 31.4GB and i agree, RAMdisk for BF4 is really impractical......it's just not needed.

I've run it off both SSD's and HDD's and i haven't noticed any stuttering with it, it's just the load times that change.

It is only to test whether it would temporarily solve most of the spikes since swapping would be less of a hit that writing to a real disk. You would use it as page fill not perse put BF4 on it as well. (but having both on a ramdisk might help)

You could try something like PrimoCache which will give you a true RAM cache for your drive. Any data re-loaded from disk is read from RAM instantly and it has a huge impact on my games. I have 16gb in my gaming rig and give the cache 8gb.

It's still a free beta and you can't even buy it yet, but it's worth using.

Cannot install 14.1 (and had the same problem with beta 9.5) - keep getting Driver: Install Fail, I'm resorting to reinstalling windows 8, then 8.1. Something is screwy with a C++ Distributable im thinking.

Things i've tried and failed (always deleting Windows\Temp and User\Temp files before installing):
1. Driver Uninstall/Re-install doesnt work
2. Driver Uninstall -> Safe Mode DDU -> Reinstall
3. Driver Unisntall -> Safe Mode DDU -> CCleaner regex -> Reinstall
4. Drive Uninstall -> Safe Mode DDU -> Delete "Computer | Device Manager | Display Adapters" -> Reinstall
5. Drive Uninstall -> Safe Mode DDU -> Delete "Computer | Device Manager | Display Adapters" -> Reinstall by manually selecting driver folder
6. Straight Install over top of the drivers

Always get a "Driver installation failed" message.

The weird thing is i think the driver installs, but fails to register it properly - as i can run games, but other programs that detect the card act weird - for example Atipatcher does not recognize the DVI/HDMI driver (and i cant overclock my monitor). Another program is Razer communication (which is less of a resource hog than Skype for my cousins) fails to see the driver, but if i right click CCC | Software , it lists driver version as 14.1.

The problem is i cant overclock my monitor no matter how much i refresh/reset Atipatcher/CRU - going to give it one more shot tonight, if not - going to wipe windows 8 out and do an 8 fresh -> 8.1 install.

Right now i can successfully do a Windows Restore and rollback to 9.5 and my monitor works fine..so very weird.

Updated the driver after a clean uninstall and now BF4 (updated) either crashes or launches with distorted sound...
