It helps when scenarios are cpu limited - are you running ultra/full AA? I get pretty decent gains at 1440p High/No AA. If i turn on AA i think the improvements Mantle gives me start to go away.

They run slightly better than my 2x 7970's that were running like a top. BF4 does have issues though. The sharp frame spikes I tend to blame more on the game than the drivers, but still.... It's just been a very underwhelming release of card and game.

I'm right there with you. Very tempted to dump these 290's for a profit while the prices are high (I got mine at $400 /each).

Just did another try to run mantle and still no go for me.

Exactly. I've been very tempted since I also got mine at 400. I could dump them both with waterblocks, grab a 780ti w/ waterblock and have a nice chunk of change left over.

Fastest cards in dual card setup at high resolutions on the planet is a dissapointing card? I understand you come from a high baseline but 2x 290X would smoke 2x 7970 and if you only notice so little of it you may not be running extreme enough settings or resolution or both to justify them biggrin.gif

Frame pacing should be improved quite a lot with the new patch one thing to not is that there is no DX9 patch by the time they get it out it wont be needed anymore and maybe that is what they plan for. 14.1 is a beta driver so there will be an update this month which should fix a lot of Mantle's bugs and if Dice also releases all those patches it will be just fine I suppose.

My 290's were fabulous even though they didn't unlock because they were Sapphires on the other hand one had coil whine and I didn't get my promised BF4 so I returned them. Still they were very very strong thumb.gif

Can some people who are experiencing the CPU spikes try manually deleting the contents of you "cache" folder inside your BF4 documents folder.... do this before launch, and then while in game once you start getting the spikes. I have noticed that the first cache doesn't get re-created until restarting the game and I am able to make it through a round with virtually no spikes, and considerably improved FPS.

Try and report back.. I am just curious if this helps anyone else. (I'm on a single R9 280x with a 1090T)

I also tried Mantle again. No change for me. Worse FPS than DX11 with stutter/hitching. Oh well. The waiting game continues.

First with a 570 then with my 5870's they are still good enough I don't currently have time to game for the coming 2 years anyways redface.gif

I have zero CPU spikes after this patch. I'll post a screenshot when I get home later.
Also, I average about 80-90 fps, Ultra, no msaa, screen res @ 110%, 1920x1080. I get low fps drops when the vehicle I'm in explodes but no CPU spikes!!!
