Well this is not mantle related but I'm getting 100% cpu usage in some games. BF4 is the biggest of them all. In some areas I can do 2560x1440 @ 120fps cause running 120hz but in other areas i get 100% cpu usage. so good to know it's at least not sound card related. i hate explaining myself 100 times on what I've tried t fix the issue

For those who are interested, I conducted an experiment to see if the Sound Blaster Z causes elevated CPU usage and reduced GPU usage whilst gaming.
Here is my study: Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
After receiving news about the potential issues with the Creative Sound Blaster Z series sound cards causing elevated CPU usage and reduced multi GPU scaling abilities, I decided to carry a series of tests to determine if these issues are present on my own configuration of hardware. Here are the results.
For system specifications, see sig rig below.

All 3D applications were ran at 1080p @ 144hz.
Hyper-threaded technology was disabled to give a better indication of raw CPU time.
Sound Blaster Z (Latest official Creative drivers for Win 8.1 x64) :
RealTek onboard HD (Latest official RealTek drivers for Win 8.1 x64) :

Testing:

Metro Last Light, All settings max except SSAA (OFF), Physx (OFF).

Location: Artyoms Room (chapter 1), looking into the room from the doorway.

(Please note, Metro LL does not scale well in many areas of this game by nature)

Sound Blaster Z
CFX = 182 FPS
No CFX = 120 FPS
CPU Usage = 70 on each core (CFX)

RealTek onboard HD
CFX = 181 FPS
No CFX = 117 FPS
CPU Usage = 70 on each core (CFX)

Tomb Raider, Ultimate Preset, FXAA, ALL additional Settings enabled/max out.

(TEST 1) Location: helipad, overlooked shanty town (Highly CPU dependant area. Looking to see if the Sound Blaster Z could cause increased CPU time which may further bottleneck GPU's)

Sound Blaster Z
CFX = 72 FPS
No CFX = 58 FPS
CPU Usage = 95 on each core (CFX)

RealTek onboard HD
CFX = 71 FPS
No CFX = 58 FPS
CPU Usage = 95 on each core (CFX)

(TEST 2) Location: Built in benchmark (This is GPU dependant. This will test if crossfire scaling is disrupted by the Sound Blaster Z).

(Please note, the max value can be ignored since it can fluctuate between 170fps to around 220 fps during repeated run throughs. We should look at the min and avg since these are consistently the same every run through).

Sound Blaster Z
CFX = Min 112, Max 176, Avg 148 FPS
No CFX = Min 60, Max 100, Avg 78 FPS
CPU Usage = 40 on each core (CFX)

RealTek onboard HD
CFX = Min 112, Max 186, Avg 148 FPS
No CFX = Min 60, Max 98, Avg 78 FPS
CPU Usage = 40 on each core (CFX)

Battlefield 4 (DirectX 11.1 API), Ultra Preset, Post AA OFF, MSAA x4, Resolution Scaling 100%, Motion Blur 50%, FOV 90.

(Please note, "gametime.maxvariablefps 0" to remove the 200fps limit. Mantle was not used because we need to put the CPU under the wrong kind of strain to see if the Sound Blaster Z can elevate CPU usage beyond an already CPU dependant area).

Location: Test Range

Sound Blaster Z
CFX = 213 FPS
No CFX = 108
CPU Usage = 100 (Cores 1 to 4), 98 (Cores 5 and 6) (CFX)

RealTek onboard HD
CFX = 213 FPS
No CFX = 108
CPU Usage = 100 (Cores 1 to 4), 98 (Cores 5 and 6) (CFX)

Far Cry 3 (DirectX 9.0 API), Ultra Preset, FOV 90, Water (LOW), GPU frame buffer (1).

Please note, FC3 suffers from crossfire scaling issues since the HD 7000 series. These issues are more apparent in DX11 mode. DX9 gives the best scaling performance. Performance can be increased by forcing Bioshoch.exe profile, or by reducing the POST FX setting to medium or low. During these tests, I decided to leave the default crossfire profile in place to reduce the chance of instability which could affect the validity of the results. Water is set to low to negate a common CPU overhead issue which causes strange fps results in certain areas of the game, even well into the mainland terrain. Frame buffer is left at 1, since this is default.

(TEST 1) Location: Doctor Earnhardt's house (looking towards the sealed front door from the inside of the home. This is CPU intensive area. Not CPU bound. If Sound Blaster Z did cause elevated CPU time, it would show in this area).

Sound Blaster Z
CFX = 138 FPS
No CFX = 117 FPS
CPU Usage = 70 (Cores 1 to 3), 100 (Cores 4 and 5), 90 (Core 6) (CFX)

RealTek onboard HD
CFX = 139 FPS
No CFX = 117 FPS
CPU Usage = 70 (Cores 1 to 3), 100 (Cores 4 and 5), 90 (Core 6) (CFX)

(TEST 2) Location 2: Doctor Earnhardt's house (Overlooking the sea during sunset. This is GPU bound)

Sound Blaster Z
CFX = 55 FPS
No CFX = 32 FPS
CPU Usage = 35 on each core (CFX)

RealTek onboard HD
CFX = 55 FPS
No CFX = 32 FPS
CPU Usage = 35 on each core (CFX)

The next test is to see if a modified EQ and SBX effects caused elevated CPU usage:

Sound Blaster Z
Tomb Raider - EQ - SBX Enabled:

Final image just confirms the CPU usage in FC3 (First Test Location).

To conclude, there seems to be Zero effects on the systems performance during gaming whilst using the SBZ sound card. From looking at previous cases, users seemed to be on Windows 7 and using last generation GPU's. I suspect the drivers might have been fixed, or the card seems to be error-less in Windows 8.1.

Thank you for reading.

yes you are right many had issues with SBZ and on windows 7 which is the most used OS by gamers and general population because many I included cant stand windows 8 or 8.1. I want to also point out this windows 8 they are trying to work support back in of accelerated audio processing or sound card processing the audio instead of CPU / MOBO doing it a hint is AMD true audio.

since XP hardware accelerated audio sound processing has not been supported or really worked with so vista and windows 7 the SBZ trying to do so would often cause issues and freak entire OS out hince odd CPU usage and GPU crossfire scaling and even higher system ram usage when running the SBZ. I want to say this in windows 8 / 8.1 they are working in hardware accelerated audio processing once again so of course it likely will perform better on an OS that is designed to understand and use this technology which is a key feature of the Sound Blaster Z audio processing offloaded from system's CPU to the sound cards audio processor aka hardware accelerated audio processing.

In DX11 mode, I too get 100 percent usage even on 6 cores! Mantle fixes that for me. When Mantle is out for you, your fps should sky rocket and CPU usage might reduce a little bit!

Yeah, could be outdated drivers for Windows 7. Recycled junk. Looks like they built the Win 8 drivers from the ground up for this Z line up.

Because you have only 4 cores. Crossfire adds more data for the cpu. Thats why you have more usage. Time to upgrade

This is what I always say, the CPU will determine your min fps for just about any game.

Yeah Directx is just mantle with multi vendor support. I think mantle is good and most probably better for now. Can't wait for en drivers and my new cpu to come so i can enjoy newer games at better fps lol. I hope in 3 weeks from now they will have full GCN 1.0 support in mantle then it will be the future. I also don't like the 2015 release date for Directx 12 but yeah i don't see why they need to releaseit now for us. I think developers might already have that.

Also love the fact that crytek will use mantle and really hope they bring out a mantle patch for crysis 3. If they do that game will open up a whole new gameplay experience for us and I will play the whole game over again.

well regardless if AMD is involved with DX12 or not in the form of off rebranded / rebadged Mantle ( which Microsoft can legaly do Manlte is open source remember ) it still got Microsoft off theyre butts and motivated them to finally do a change in DX instead of slight tweaks and rename it next lvl of DX with little improvement Microsoft got lazy and us the users paid for it many times look at past flop port over games alot can be blamed on Microsoft and theyre lack of change and in general to progress with the hardware and hardware or softwares capabilities / needs Microsoft became very stagnant for many years. Either way AMD lit a fire under Microsofts butt and apparently it was just what was needed to get Microsoft motivated out of fear devs would leave theyre stranglehold.

Either way AMD lit a fire under Microsofts butt and apparently it was just what was needed to get Microsoft motivated out of fear devs would leave theyre stranglehold.

yeah i agree. I feel that we can finally say that software is the bottleneck and they should've done this in the first place. The thing is young people that don't have lot's of money to spend on cpu and gpu must be targeted cause there is where the market is these days. they can make more money with this and I completely understand if microsoft will make you upgrade to windows 9 cause i'm runing windows 8.1 and i'm extremely happy with it. i don't understand why people hate it so much cause the interface is fine for me. you don't use it that much anyway. Windows 8.1 uses less RAM so you have more power to do what you want to. all my apps works fine and i'm even using windows 8.1 at work no issues so far. The only problem I have is the fact that My cpu is being maxed out but I know it will be worse on windows 7.

The moral of the story is they should rather target budget gaming pc's and give them also a good experience cause there is millions of people not able to buy the greatest cpu to pwer the gpu.
