Good question. I just put together a A-6 6400k-6670 HTPC for the kids to play minecraft and watch movies on the projector. It is obnoxiously slow at certain things, and wonderful at others. It could use some CPU strain offloaded to the GPU. It gets pegged at 99% and has bad FPS drop style stuttering with a pretty weenie game "Cube World," that my 10 year old plays, even at 1280x720, while the 6670 is barely breaking a sweat. I really hope Mantle gives this thing some headroom. I am a Intel guy, but I couldnt pass up the $69.00 mobo+CPU combo at Microcenter....don't disappoint me AMD!

I rebuilt my system going from air to water. At the same time I changed my RAM going from loose timings on Kingston 1600 to tight timings on G.Skill/Samsung 2133 CL9.

OLD - 22,881 : http://www.3dmark.com/fs/1536771

NEW - 23,247 : http://www.3dmark.com/fs/1536771

CPU clock was exactly the same. GPU clocks were very slightly faster on the new result but not significantly so and they were not throttling on air. Main difference is the RAM speed.

edit: similar result in Valley -- I got about 6-8 FPS more using the same GPU clocks.

What frequency of ram you using on that combo APU's especially love high speed ram because the system ram is also the Vram for the APU and it has been proven to give huge perofrmance increases to have fast ram on a APU.

th is the proof take a look http://www.facebook.com/notes/gigabyte/using-high-performance-ram-with-amd-a-series-apus-in-dx11-gaming/10150250045504446?ref=nf

I did not think that the RAM made much difference with APUs if you dont use the iGPU, the 6670 doesnt go dual graphics with the 6400k, so it is essentially a CPU, not a APU. But I pulled a stick of 4GB Corsair 1600 that is currently running 2000 9-10-9-26-1T till the prices on DDR3 come back down. I paid 1/2 of current prices for the same sticks this time last year.

well if you look one of the links is the old a8 3850 and it makes a huge difference on performance having high speed ram specifically http://www.legitreviews.com/testing-different-memory-speeds-on-amds-a8-3850-llano-apu_1652/6

even if you arent using the APU itself for graphics it is still used and with mantle it will be doing coprocessing aka HSA Co-Processing add to it there are areas where the system will choose to use the APU instead of additional graphics cards and such for eco and efficiency it is part of the main design of an APU so ram speed ( preferably high speed ) still is important even if not using the APU itself 100% of time.

Funny how we are talking about Ram speeds etc etc on A Mantle Thread. Just shows how less and less we starting to care about mantle. BTW i was thinking of upgrading my 16GB corsair vengance ram to something like 1866 Adata or some little bit more inexpensive company that Corsair

This thread has seen much worse, this is hardly off-topic in comparison to some of the earlier stuff. I'm a hypocrite for being off-topic too, feel free to hang/sack/behead me for my insolence.

Something something mantle... there I'm on topic.

Before I go OT anynody have any info if DICE got their poop together andbare releasing Mantle this mont like promised? Now for the OT: This thread is so siderailed plus I can't read what rickcooperjr says, because this is how he posts:

Notice the unnecessary amount of enter clicking and the annoying as all hell use of no punctuations I'm a busy man but I still have time to spam off-topic walls of text that nobody can read because my grammar skills are horribly lacking because I'm busy and that's why I can't type a single post normally.

yah it is realy funny talking about other things other than the main topic. but, i said a while back theres only so much you can talk about when there is no real new news about mantle other than all the things it can do. no hard lock on date, hypathetical things it can and cant do. eventualy you will get off topic, lol. back on topic though we are closing in on the end of this month and no date. at this point i truly think we wont see it this month. i will be surprised if we do but ive realy given up hope on it coming out this month. in the mean time ill throw down on this metal gear rising deal i picked up for 20 bucks on steam. pretty good game so far digging the anime style cinimatics. i also picked up castlevania lord of shadows, looks promising and it was only 10 bucks. unlike this horrible cod game whats it called, ohhhhh, yahhhh, ghosts!!!!!

when have I ever said I had the best timings or anything else of the sort I have always simply put my beliefs / thoughts and ideas about what is going on and even reasons why so my long winded stuff is usually backed up by proof. Yes I do hardware testing with my spare time and dont get paid to do so yes I am very busy 90% of time when I have to have baby I usually either play with her and keep her happy or play on computer and play music for her while holding her and me type one handed on overclock.net since when is that a crime my daughter loves music and wants to be held so I quess I shouldnt make the best of that and pass the time also myself by typing on here and such. I have to say man you really are not a very nice person are you nor do you understand life much facts are when have I ever raged on anyone that didnt deserve it ( from my unerstanding I have only raged on 2 people from time I got on this site I could name them and most would agree they deserved it ) and when have I actually typed out complete jibberish look at my past posts in other threads and then think about what is going on now you would realize I have been pretty spot on with my advice and predictions as you would call them.

remember a few months back when the whole issue I brought up about multithreading and multi threaded rendering was coming into play very soon with next gen consoles before any info was out at all about them and quess what it has everyone said it would take years to use more than a quad and also advised the plane jane I5 not even K version over amd FX 8320-50 quess what that has been proven not the best solution in more situations than not the 8320-8350 is on par or better in alot of situations even BF4 performs extremely well on 8320-50 over the plane jane I5 and that is before Mantle comes in think about my previous posts in other threads I have been saying this for over 1 1/2 year either I have a good crystal ball or was informed about future plans / designs.

Odds are we should get an announcement soon to let us know Mantle won't be released until February.

Regardless of how I feel about the contents of your posts,I don't think it is fair for anyone to mock you on the forums. However, I also would suggest getting into the habit of using some punctuation. Your point gets lost quickly in a wall of hard to read text. If you take away their ability to attack you for your grammar, they will be forced to deal with the topic/issue/point you wish to get across.

Back on off-topic topic:
You pointed to several APU reviews, all showing gains with RAM being a factor in improving graphic capabilities. Using a discrete GPU not in dual gpahics mode, I do not see the same gains in the graphic scores, as the VRAM is on the discrete, rather than being the DDR3 shared with the system. With that said, I still see an improvement, but the improvement is more CPU performance gains.

Back on topic:

I got $5.00 says Mantle ain't comin' this month!
And I still want to know if I Mantle will do any good for this 6400k. But I guess I will probably have to wait till March to find out.
