Neither say Nvidia has crap compute.

Gonna post again right after this.

He definitely did not say that nor did he say anything about IOPS/FLOPS. What he tried to do was to say that due to AMD's good mining performance they also have higher overall compute performance than Nvidia does. This is of course complete nonsense.

Also tressFX really has very little to do with integer performance... It's based on DirectCompute which works just about as well on Nvidia as it does on AMD. Most of the "Nvidia can't runn tressFX" stuff came from AMD/devs not giving Nvidia access to the game early enough. 2 days before launch isn't early enough. It works just fine on Nvidia hardware, just like Civ 5's directcompute stuff does.

Again;

As I said, the need for high IOPS is extremely niche in the GPU space. There's a reason for why theoretical compute power of GPUs is measured in TFLOPS or GFLOPS....

So no, his argument is just as nonsense as it was before.

It has been weeks with others including you, and yet he hasn't once given a pic or any proof of his setup. So it goes to reason he never will. It is a waste badgering him to give any proof.

So lets spend time talking of the subject at hand.

Go back and read the posts and look for the original intent. You only came in to tag team and badger him as well. I understood his intent with ease. TressFX is open and from what other people say the performance tends to be better on AMD.

I have been watching the tag team piling on of a single poster that isn't even being hostile, whereas if he was it would make sense and be deserving. Lets just stop and discuss with decency Mantle.

topic discussion is great, when the information is solid. Alatar has come in to set the record straight on certain comments as drawing comparisons between tressFX performance and IOP number crunching. Similar parallels have been drawn between how mantle will perform, based off of how AMD mines coins.

anyways, i'm going to go pop some popcorn now.

btw, most of the comments here about tressFX & nvidia must be coming from people with little experience with said hardware, & the one game that has used it (tomb raider). TressFX has next to no impact on performance for me. While it brings down my top possible FPS, it has zero affect on my minimum FPS.

If you do some simple googling, you will will find such topics as "Nvidia apologizes for Tomb Raider performance" in said story you will read how AMD didn't give them access to the code until a few days before launch. Indeed, the game ran like total ass when it first came out. Now it runs flawlessly with near perfect GPU scaling.

edit: It's been more than weeks. It's been months, across multiple threads. All full of loose associations, ramblings, & general assumption.

if that's who over shadows Crystal Dynamic then sure! I use AMD as a place holder as they stamp "Evolved" in the loading screens. It's like how I blame nvidia for the poor optimizations in Assassins Creed: Black Flag. Gotta love having one core @ 99% constantly, no matter the FX settings! oh god, then it starts to rain and it's like 1996 all over again.

So much non Mantle related posts about crypto garbage today a friend of mine told me about the Silk Road as site that deals in drugs really all those crypto garbage is a bad influence on the world. Russian mafia, drug networks and who knows what other nightmares are supported by this.

Just get back to our Mantle discussion btw only 1 month and a week left for Thief to drop.

And Skupples cool that you have a degree in Physics thumb.gif
