AMD MANTLE Discussion Thread - Page 96

those #'s in the PCP report are from AMD. So, I suspect they may be kinda like the leaked 290x benchmarks... Which is standard industry operating procedure.

PCP also said the BF4 patch may release before the drivers... headscratch.gif

I wonder how much of an increase for my fx 8350+r9 290x @1080p?

Yes, you probably should.

As Obi-Chad and many others are talking about. A lot of things have been running like ass for Xfire users. Maybe my troubles will have been fixed with simply the frame pacing in the drivers coming out. I loved my first 290 that I was able to unlock to 290x. Thinks started sloping downhill after I decided to get another 290, which was not unlockable and then just welcomed me to all of the typical Xfire issues.

People forget that even a i5 get hammered on MP part. When i disable ht on my i7, i got instanly 90-100% cpu usage. Also the biggest part is the min fps

Hope for the best, expect the worst? AMD never promised to accelerate big Intel hexcores but still they gained 10% in the first revision. That's not a fail in my book and its not the worst outcome that we could have expected. I wish the GCN1 boosts were available. Argh, like always big complex rigs with many cards always gets the last call.

BTW -> The percentage improvements displayed below are in the average frame rate of a pre-set test run in BF4.

Core i7-4960X CPU + R9 290X GPU
1080p, Ultra Preset, 4xAA: 9.2% improvement with Mantle
1600p, Ultra Preset, 4xAA: 10% improvement with Mantle
Core i7-4960X CPU + R7 260X GPU
1080p, Ultra Preset, 4xAA: 2.7% improvement
1600p, Ultra Preset, 4xAA: 1.4% improvement
A10-7700K CPU + R9 290X GPU
1080p, Ultra Preset, 4xAA: 40.9% improvement
1600p, Ultra Preset, 4xAA: 17.3% improvement
A10-7700K CPU + R7 260X GPU
1080p, Ultra Preset, 4xAA: 8.3% improvement
1600p, Low Preset: 16.8% improvement

Oxide Games’ StarSwarm is AMD’s other proof-of-concept. Oxide consists of industry veterans from Firaxis and Microsoft Studios, so they seem like good candidates for executing Mantle at its full potential.

CPU-limited scenario: 319% (1080p) and 281% (1600p) performance improvement in the “RTS” test on Extreme settings with the AMD A10-7700K and an AMD Radeon R9 290X.
GPU-limited scenario: 5.1% (1080p) and 16.7% (1600p) performance improvement in the “RTS” test on Extreme settings with the Core i7-4960X and an AMD Radeon R7 260X
Average uplift for 1080p: 115.65% (Average of 290X and 260X data on the i7-4960X, A10-7700K, FX 8350 and i5-4670K)
Average uplift for 1600p: 75.19% (Average of 290X and 260X data on the i7-4960X, A10-7700K, FX 8350 and i5-4670K)

Wish they would of included FPS #'s with those performance increases. They are ever so slightly arbitrary w.o them.

A flood of information is sure to poor in soon, & this thread will likely be OCN's epicenter for it, outside of the BF4 & Hawaii owner's club. I'm excited.

I think we should keep it clean. Its interesting because imagine mantle on steam machines and laptops. You dont need a good cpu at all.

Could be quite a bit - somewhere between 10% and 40% certainly.

I didn't say it was a failure, just a far cry from the 40% (and some much higher) numbers some people have been throwing around for the past two months. Many people were scoffing at "only" a 10% gain a month ago.
